Guest IB Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Lost 4 looks like itll be another tonight and another three going light defra coming out on monday ,ive injected them all for pmv again tonight it looks bleek nehu reckon thers big out breaks Think you may have queered the pitch injecting the birds for pmv when there is a suspicion that you have a pmv outbreak. DEFRA will maybe have difficulty with identifying whether pmv antibodies have been produced in response to vaccine, or exposure to virus. The other concern is the vaccine leaflet states vaccinate only healthy birds.
paul10121968 Posted October 9, 2009 Author Report Posted October 9, 2009 there is a good article in this weeks bhw on page 26 concerning paratyphoid.another disease to look out for.i was surprised to learn that your birds could have it and not show any symptoms at all and just be carriers of the disease.

They reckin you can have this dredfull disease within a good bird, and it will go un-noticed and you will never no its the carrier,

Salmonella/paratyphoid, Will be the next big disease to hit everyone. I was talking to a very well known pigeon vet not that long back and he says 90% of lofts have birds that are carriers of the disease. Thats why i vacinate every year now with a live vaccine from chevita after a 10day treatment. Its a killer disease if you get it. jas.

pjc Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 mainly through worst of the moult now and having to call them down from the sky after an hour to get them in.
Guest strapper Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 i stated a while back about paratyphoid, this will put an end to your racing birds if threy contact it. its quite hard to get rid of and theres only one thing to do if they manage to get it in the wing...a small lump mainly on a joint. i read an article stating that this is very common in europe and regular vaccinations are rquired to prevent it raising its ugly head. i had it once in a bird that i was keeping for stock in a spare basket (2 wks)id bought it from a bereavement sale and one day i spotted a small lump on the wing..thought...protein lump?..but no it was paratyphoid...well that was the end of that bird in the stock loft....£80 down the drain. just glad i didnt put it in with the others. after what ive read recently up on this and how many have had it ,i will now for next season vaccinate for this.
