CHAIRDE   FRIENDS

on a serious note

there has been many many posts on threads

re; what YOU put in your birds bathing water

I have read garlic , cider vinegar washing liquid even TCP

so come on

honest replies

what, why and how much of whatever you use

and more important what your hoping to achieve

by using whatever you use

simply cleaning the birds feathers ??

killing lice ??

trying to put a shine on feathers ??

remember before you reply

people read threads like this

TO TRY AND LEARN

Micko, I use vinegar in the pigeons bathwater primarily to rid them of lice. Some people don’t like the idea thinking it will break down the oils on feathers of the pigeon but a pigeon has very little in the way of oils, what makes a pigeon silky and shine in appearance is bloom which is made up of proteins I believe.

HOW ABOUT MUSSCLE SOAK, WITH LOTS OF BUBBLE AND SOME TOYS. AFTER THEY ARE DONE BATHING, MASSAGE THEM WITH CLOVE OIL, THEN SHAMPOO AND YOU CAN ALSO USE HAIR DRIER TO DRY OFF THEM FEATHERS. :K) :K) :K) :K) :K) :K)

It is one of the things I've noticed: no matter how drenched the birds get, whether its in a bath that I've put down for them or them bathing outside in heavy rain, the skin is always dry, and when they give themselves that first shake to rid excess water from their feathers, I see a cloud of dust take to the air too.  This weatherproofing comes from the powder down - bloom. The oil seems to me to be more of an antimicrobial thing [like p/permanganate] to keep feathers free of bacteria / fungus / moulds that attack and degrade the feathers.

Think additives to baths are mainly fanciers choice, main aim to relax birds and keep them vermin-free.

i use cider vinagar unless they have had a hard race then use herble radox .

Herble radox? you put that in the bath are you not worried there drink it, I've use Radox many times after a hard race but only when i hand bath them in warm water. Is Herble radox different to normal radox?
