lightning fast Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 I send test kits away during racing if I need to treat, canker Flagel, upper respiratory , Orni cure, lower, lictro spectrum, Yeast y40 or cider vinegar, usually I use cider vinegar when they come back from a race and very rarely have to medicate, I never have to treat for coxi, and never had a kit saying there was , e-coil or salmonella, worms, moxidecten :X

Guest Owen Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 The idea of keeping medicines ready to feed to the birds is a very poor idea. I test the droppings and swabs so that I can get it right. If I do need to use medication I will always test after the treatment to make sure I have cleared the problem. Not all treatments work as they should.

Guest Owen Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 lightening fast during racing I test every Sunday. Not because, strictly speaking, I need to. I am doing all I can to practice my skills with a microscope and I do a lot for other Fanciers. Sunday mornings are the times I do it, so if I am doing it for others I just as well do my own. I have learned that birds can have a high cocci count after a hard race and that later in the week the count often goes down without medication. One examination for most things is not good enough. You need to check that the medication has actually worked. Hair worm can be very hard to clear and I have known it have 3 medications to shift it.
Guest IB Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Thread made me think about what I've used most, and that turns out to be for injuries. 4 last year, 2 deffo and 2 probably, hawks, with 2 quite badly ripped. An antiseptic to drench and sterilise the wound after cleaning it, and a healing paste to seal the wound after sterilising it. Have also had my first one this year, bird was out for 7 days in sub-zero temperatures, snow & ice , very lucky to survive.
billt Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 The same as I would for myself and family, only when needed
lightning fast Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 I find it quite amazing how many fancers dont have anything in there med cubbord,Every top fancer I have been to has somthing there that includes 2 up north combine winners and fed winners over scotland and england that I have been to, they all have some stuff.
