Guest Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Thanks, much appreciated. You’ve perhaps overlooked that my losses have been nowhere as high as the norm elsewhere. So my birds must be healthier than most, at least they can actually get home, and in race time? Matter of interpretation, mine being that they are good birds and if they were healthier would be leading not following. If they were rubbish they wouldn't be getting home. Of course they could be 600 mile + plodders which would be another explanation. But let's see, because many roads lead to Rome and I have spoken to top guys who tell me they never treat, only the odd one though. Sorry if I took your post out of context.
Guest Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 I believe good birds win with or without medication as the top flier in alocal club treats reg yet in one of the N rd clubs there is a guy who was winning Fed/ Combine positions in the top 20 even though he lives south of Thames but flys with the East London Fed (If Wiley reads this i feel he might agree not easy to get up in this fed from s of water) yet i know 100% that the only extra his birds got was garlic and Johnsons tonic so i think we should also respect each others views me personally my view is treat when needed but if it aint broke dont try and fix it
Guest Vic Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Hi Vic hopefully your birds will be back to normal for next year as well. Interested that you did it for 12 days what percentage of Baytril did you use and what rate, I've used 1ml tto 2 litre of 20%. I'd be interested why 12 days instead of 10. I wonder if Larry knows, would like to know for my own benefit becasue I'm due to treat and vaccinate shortly SNAP! Any doubts whatsoever, contact Larry or Gord. Brilliant pigeon men.
DOVEScot Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Re DoveScot's points : Remember reading a letter in BHW a while back from an elderly fancier who misdiagnosed a paramyxo outbreak as paratyphoid. DEFRA enforced special disposal of the droppings, and he had to pay extra for that service. So I would expect it is the same for any Notifiable disease. Aye, if they notify :-/
Guest Vic Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 May Vic, Also thank John 11 for his own involvement, in my plight. Now this guy is one of us, working with the boffins at one of the best universities in the uk. Thanks John , appreciated. Vic.
Guest Vic Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Hi Guys Just to throw another side to this. If Vic had treated with baytril alone do you think his birds will look the same as they do now. Question How many strains of Salmonella are there? and How many can infect the pigeon? Can someone explain to me how an injection against a bacteria not virus works? Then ask yourself will an injection against a strain of Salmonella work against another strain? If the answer is no... Then why dont we vaccinate against every strain the pigeon can get? Im all for treating pigeons when they are sick, but with paratyphoid if you want to eradicate it there is only one outcome im afraid... If not I feel you will always have the same problems Your parting line John? Read My first post (sad) Yes? or No? If NO pigeon racing is finished.
DOVEScot Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 With rats and mice being carriers in their own right - it doesn't really matter does it seeing as there are millions upon millions of them Many human beings are carriers of salmonella So as I said the answer is no to "can it be stopped" just managed as best as posssible :-/
ChrisMaidment08 Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 no? so cull is that the answer or throw money into things that work short term then reinfect young so you go on roundabout??????
Guest Vic Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 no? so cull is that the answer or throw money into things that work short term then reinfect young so you go on roundabout?????? NO! Roland Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 no im jokeing mate mine get treated but from what i hear paratyphoid is in bird for 3 years after treatment so reinfect youngsters even though they may look and fly well??????? Now we're cutting to the chase. Simply put... get shot, unless you want y/b'd & yearlings to race as 4 year old or more. Was in contact with many, Gordon etc. etc. and Johnny 11. Yes Vic, just a little while back I posted 'Why not contact your mucker Johnny 11. First class service, competative priced and a whole lab and Top boys to back him up. Seems you did remember you remebered him lol. Any way 3 years is about right. Sanitarian / Cleanse and cleanse loft! Bleach, burn and Vykon etc. and hope and a wing and a prayer. Remember just a first shrt months ago when I said abit about Phaptyhoid etc. was shot down and smilingly rideculed via a couple... Like I say, too many don't even realise it exists, that they have carriers and treat for ... But often they start out as a Secondarily illness, and mock the parent desiese. Samonella / Phar are the biggest danger to our sport and are rife. You'd better believe it.
