Guest peter4pm Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 I seem to have a bit of a moisture propblem in my main loft , was wondering if i could put some sort of dressing under the floor grills that would take the moisture out the air and hence keeping the loft moisture free. ive got 4 vents along the bottom of my loft ...any suggestions there would be appreciated Peter
blackdog Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 try some natural floor granuals mate to put under grills
Guest peter4pm Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 right how much should i put under the grills inches wise ??
adam owen Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 i would take grills up and just put the granuals down its great stuff
pjc Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 if the moisture is a water leak, putting granuals, shavings, easibed etc will soak it up but then you will still have a damp environment for spores to produce!
David048 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 i put cat litter down sometimes - some of it is medicated so leave it down for a few hours then sweep it up and it's nice and dry and disinfected

Guest peter4pm Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 my lofts made of wood only .....when its damp weather ..it feels damp in the loft ..not the wood ect ...just the feeling if you know what i mean ...if i put papers in my next boxes ..the next day ..if its been damp sort of day ect ..the papers feel damp ...i was wondering if there was a way to combat this???
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 where is your loft situated is it surrounded by trees etc as this can cause unwanted moisure but to be honest i think its just the weather we are having at the moment
Guest peter4pm Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 where is your loft situated is it surrounded by trees etc as this can cause unwanted moisure but to be honest i think its just the weather we are having at the moment yea im thinking that myself , just wondered if there was a way to keep the moisture out the loft ect or at least toneing it down a bit
Guest frank dooman Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 i think its just down to the weather just now esp. in scotland there is only one way to deal with it and thats to have heating in the loft and i draw the line at that you can sort things out when the weather changes if it ever does!!
Tony C Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 What have you immediately below your vents on the outside of your loft? If it grass or gravel maybe paving or concreting would be a better option.

Some kind of heating is the only answer,,,,,, Frank bristow swares by this ,I have this in my stock loft which is surrounded by trees, I have the mats under the floor, my drinkers never freeze up , my pickstone are never damp. but wouldent go putting anthing down as this will stay damp. other thing is puting more natural sunlight in the loft?
Guest peter4pm Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 yes the pickpots i know exactly what you mean by the damp pots ..i notice it more if the pots are nearly empty for some reason ...when full it seems ok .. but yea thats the sort of thing i want to combat , as i know misture in the loft can cause problems big time .
