fodencat Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 is it possible to feed just once a day.
Guest IB Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Think you will find that it is the norm during the winter months. I started it on Sunday and feed at 8am. Time of day will depend on your work & other commitments.
sapper756 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Yes, I staretd my birds on a 1 feed a day last week, and will remain on this over the winter.
fodencat Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 thanks for the replys.can u feed once a day all year round or not
OLDYELLOW Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 if you feed once a day the pigeons metabolism will slow down , it think that its starving then the bird stores energy as fat so in answer to that question i'd say no
Guest Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 thanks for the replys.can u feed once a day all year round or not yes, but not when the old birds are feeding y/birds
Guest casbri Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 i have fed once a day after racing ever since i started with pigeons does not hurt them
Chris Little Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 One of the best long distance fanciers in Holland only see to their birds in the evening, they flag them for exercise and then they are fed, what is left over in the troughs does them in the morning.
Ronnie Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I feed once a day all year round unless there feeding youngsters then it will go to 3-4 times a day.

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Whilst in moult feeding always in front of the pigeons with fresh food put down in front them twice a day, winter months will most times feed once a day and in spring and summer fed between two and five times a day.
The Navigator Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I know a guy who feeds once a day all year round and he wins out of turn.
just ask me Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 good birds are good birds i think it dont make too much of a difference really
The Navigator Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I know a guy who feeds once a day all year round and he wins out of turn.
Lennut Tar Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 if you feed once a day the pigeons metabolism will slow down , it think that its starving then the bird stores energy as fat so in answer to that question i'd say no Sorry !!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D "LMFAO" I take back now what I just said about you on the other topic here :'( :'( :'( :'( :) But your wrong I'm afraid for what I have seen. 1st, Never ever only feed once a day when breeding or you have young in the nest etc, it's wrong. Racing is a different matter/issue & it can be quite successful only feeding once a day. Many flyers I know have done it for years here, mainly because of work committments/time which just does not allow them to be at their lofts twice a day to feed & train them. Enjoy :P & I hope we can still be friends.
Guest slugmonkey Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I cafeteria all winter and open loft as well my birds were locked down 3 days last winter Oct - March During the race season I feed 1 time a day in the LATE evening
just ask me Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 ill try put it better on the recent threads great birds in scotland and the other thread birds into ireland wales england there were great birds mentioned on these threads do u think if these birds were fed only once a day they wouldent have got these results i bet some of them were and if they were fed with different grains they would have still got the same results good pigeons are good pigeons fullstop
Beanz Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 We have only ever fed once a day as such, the only thing they got in a morning was a bit of seed and they win. Paul
fodencat Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 thanks for all the replies.thinking about coming back into the sport after 20yrs away.the reason i asked the question was because of my work commitments.i start work at 16.00 & work till 02.00 sometimes 04.00,so its just trying to balance out feeding times
jakjak Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 thanks for the replys.can u feed once a day all year round or not Yes........and win prizes correct selection of food and good motivation equals success, but there are many roads to rome!!
PATTY BHOY Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 where are u getting your birds if you are just starting up,and your loft.

mark proctor Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 your tottally right old yellow...ive read books for years on feeding...come on lads this guy nows is pigeons.... :P :P :P :P
OLDYELLOW Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 thanks for all the replies.thinking about coming back into the sport after 20yrs away.the reason i asked the question was because of my work commitments.i start work at 16.00 & work till 02.00 sometimes 04.00,so its just trying to balance out feeding times so basicaly you work from 4 pm to between 2 am - 4 am , im sure you could fit feeding twice a day into that time scale , wifes and girlfriends are also handy , but if wishing to feed once a day id stay clear of feeding a mix thats heavy with maize and safflower , until later on in the week
