its a long race and normaly along time in the basket , in fairness you can only do your best before you send your birds the controller / feed and watering whilst on route and how you birds cope with this determines the outcome if i had a bird that would only eat a bit of corn then just peanuts id try with small oil seeds , then some hulled sunfloweerseeds then give him the peanuts should give him a good crack at getting to the race in top condition ;)

if its any consolation , i knew a great fancier who actually named his bird peanuts,, this is all  it would eat, as much as he tried,, but after the bird scored,[at the distance]  let it have its way,, and it scored a few times since .

i think there are many roads leading to rome concerning pigeons,

,i would prefer a diet with less peanuts [but beleive by giving  a few,  are more than good for distance races, ]

if the bird will only eat peanuts ,   [which they love] and even a little corn  i would tend to feed the corn first , then of an evening , give it it speanuts    at a limited amount ,and work the bird harder,  if they are well used to peanuts , it can sometimes be  wrong , at this time , to break this habit [especialy nearing the longer races],, the time to try changing is well b4 this time , but, as said b4 , pigeons have won long hard races , with peanutpower ;D  good luck

I have certain birds that will follow me anywhere if they know I have peanuts in my pocket even drop out of the sky onto my shoulder and as Jimmy says feed them their normal feed then top up with peanuts. The biggest problem I have with that,we basket for the longer races on Wednesday for Sat. Lib.If it's an old over to say Monday the birds aren't going to get peanuts and some will do without food thinking peanuts will be available?? .This can't do them any good but what can we do,once they're hooked on peanuts it's hard to change a habit.Lindsay.

get yourself some pellets layers pellets will do go to the Supermarket get yourself a couple of bottles of peanut oil . Now mix together some pellets and some oil let them dry and feed to the birds cheeper than buying peanuts and now you can control more o the amount the birds take

one of my best racing hens and family favourite was called peanut.

she scored several times in the fed and would love nothing  but to gorge on peanuts.

she was as tame as a bird can be...wish i had her racing for me now.

my birds all get peanuts whilst racing...as many as possible.
