demolition man Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 i was under the impression maple peas was bad for the liver ??? never hurt my birds and ive won out to 593mls once the become old birds consistantly
Guest IB Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Maize is one of the things in a breeding mix that birds rearing youngsters will always avoid. Doing same as yourself this year, mixing my own. Staple diet will be beans, maples & tares in a gallipot, topped up with tit-bits of wheat, barley & hormoform fed in a smaller pot.
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 yea i thought that why pay 13pond a bag when they dont eat half of it just give them what they need as alot of mixes have grains they dnt need its also cheeper id say to do this
Guest peter.j Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 http://www.pigeonbasics.com/downloads/grains2.exe try this
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 its just something someone said bout them each to its own i surpose
demolition man Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 its just something someone said bout them each to its own i surpose i like useing baby milk on the food aswell makes em grow, and a few peanuts but i've heard there no good like i say no problems here regards
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 same ya withe maples people av diff opinions like i mite try the milk tho
dwh Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 i was under the impression maple peas was bad for the liver ??? maples are a source of extra protein we use beans to much protein causes protein poison never had it though and use beans all year
cowman Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 i mix my own 50% wheat with 50% high protein 19% pheasant rearing pellets birds do well don`t get fat and young sqabs can digest it well.
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 the pheasant pellets wat percent are the protein in them when u say high protein wat grains do u use
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 what u feed there is 119% a percentage is only 100% so this feed is unbalanced surley ????
cowman Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 read it properley adam 50%+50% =100% the pellets are 19%protein not another 19% added on so with wheat being 15.2% and the pellets being 19% protien that is 34.2% protein
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 it doesnt say that tho read it back to your self see if you can see where im coming from :-/
Guest Owen Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 adam, 25% pellets are too much in my opinion. Be careful with brown grains,ie peas and beans. They contain tanin which is a poison. Some say that birds can get protein poisoning. I think it is an over use of tinin based feeds. Maize is OK in the nest but you will find that a lot of parents will not want to feed it to the young. I like a mixture containing a variety of small seeds. Make sure you give the feeding parents a small number of peanuts. It is important to make sure that the youngsters are given the taste because the peanuts are invaluable for later. After weaning I think you should not feed maize but feed grade barley is a must. Do not use malting barley because it is not suitable for livestock. Once you have got them on the road and training well, give them plate maize in the mix and at least 50% barley. You know how my birds exercise and that is what they get. My view is that when the birds are flying a couple of hours at exercise and training they need carbohydrates.
blackdog Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 yea i thought that why pay 13pond a bag when they dont eat half of it just give them what they need as alot of mixes have grains they dnt need its also cheeper id say to do this adam, if your birds are leaving the maize in your mix your putting to much down for them, try feeding 3 or 4 times a day if possible putting down a small amount at a time till they eat it all up
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 my granch trever cook and a few other oldies told me to always add 25%pellets so thats what ive alwaysed done dnt no if im right or they are but the results speak for them selfs what you saying about the tanin ive heered off alot of flyers dnt no for fact my self but trust your oppinian as you are a underated GENIUS ;)
adam owen Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 blackdog will take that on board its some times impossible for me too do that i will have to get my mrs a loft jacket and a corn tin i think lol ;D ;D
