spen Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 yes that's true, john crowder feeds his birds layer pellet n barley 50 50 all year round, and droppings from all his birds are perfect.
Guest Owen Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 If you are concerned as to the make up of the pellets, just tear off the label and check it out on the computer. My impression is that there is an ingrediant that makes them unsuitable for cocks.

Guest Owen Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Yea, but I bet they coo with a lisp and mince about with the wing on their hip.
BLACK W F Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 no flew like hell would knock holes in walls especially when you chop some pea nuts up and mix them in to the pellets
Guest bigda Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 its like the pellets in the plus versea laga and no good puting oil on the feed and letting it stand for a wile as goes to mush
Guest bigda Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 there is nothing wrong in feeding them to your pigeons, as there are a lot of science when in to making them for the farmers, AND THEY DON'T SUFFER FOOLS
chickadee Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 there is nothing wrong in feeding them to your pigeons, as there are a lot of science when in to making them for the farmers A lot of science has went into them to produce darker and more yellower yolks and produce 300+ eggs a year, not exactly what we require. I feed mine on both layers and growers pellets but not in the main, but judging from the comments of people that have I may just try it on my fantails first and see how it goes. I also feed my hens on pigeon mix at times :-/ AND THEY DON'T SUFFER FOOLS You better stay here then Bigda ;D ;D ;D
Guest bigda Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 most of the pellets are made with wheat, and oyster shell grit, a few vitamins and calcium, the poultry trade is big business, and cant run the risk of under feeding hens as the losses would be to high to make it a profitable business
owen101 Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 are these the same as the BOS pellets
Guest bigda Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 i would say and cheaper, based on the same thing, might just come in a differant bag hens will eat anything realy in the wild as would pigeons
owen101 Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 they all do the same i would say i go 3 20kg bags for 3.00 of my grandad what is ok could of gave me them thou

Guest kev d Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 CHICKEN GROWERS ARE THE BEST I HAVE USED THEM ALL FOR YEARS JUST GO TO JOHN CROWDERS AND YOU WILL SEE not used the growers but might give the a try im wrong in saying layers are the ones to use cos ive never used growers so sorry mate , cheers kev
Guest phillip Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Also used chicken layer pellets and a grain mixture and have since stopped using pellets because my hens started laying eggs although they are all isolated from the cocks . Soon as I stopped using the pellets , the egg laying also stopped . Only use a mixture grain and mineral supplements now and they are OK on condition. Could it be the pellets contain a hormone to stimulate egg production ?
vanlink Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I have used turkey and game pellets for years both 100% and every % in between all year round and have won at fed level, sprint and distance. I have now stopped using them because i feel they are not good value for money. The birds seem to need more for the same result. It also makes a mess, clumps together and there is a certain amount of crumb which can attract vermin. Thats just me but i would certainlly recommend that you give them a try. They will not do any harm.
