peterpau Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 anyone remember when your birds came back by rail I'd rather not admit to that but yes
bewted Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 theres been a few threads on here with fanciers offering to cover certain parts of the country and to set up a fanciers network which was either scoffed at or poorly supported it might now be the time to go cap in hand to these fanciers and do what should of been done in the first place,.....pete i was trying to sort it for strays, but, out of the whole of pigeonbasics,,,there was only 12,including me,willing to do anything,,,the rest did not even bother,,,,,,,the rest all moan and groan about stray pigeons and cost to return,,,,,,what are the moaners and whingers going to do now amtrak not here any more !!! more than likely moan and whinge about some one else instead of getting of your fat ar*es and do something,,,these are the pathetic ones...whinge,moan,groan !!!
pjc Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 it'll always be the same Ted, will be interested to see the RPRA's reaction though. Phil
bewted Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 that i wait and see too, but, wont hold my breath though !!!

amdeliveries Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 upto now amtrak drivers have been told to go to work on tuesday and see what happens. i will gladly work with any national delivery system that can be set up between us all. the idea of a pigeon fanciers/breeders network seems a really good idea. it would work out cheaper if we had a central collection/delivery point in each area. we are trying to get hold of a couple of vans and drivers for next week just in case amtrak dont recover. i know a couple of people have been waiting fo a reply from me regarding collections/deliveries but i lost all my computer hard drive thru a virus. so if anyone has a bird that need collecting next week please get back in touch and i will sort it out. my contact number is 07742505583 or email me at amdeliveries.com again if amtrak stay closed then i really do need to talk to as many people as possible to help set up a nationwide delivery network amongst all the pigeon world. we will be in a better position to move forward as soon as we find out about amtrak. again my apologies for any missed or unreplied requests for collection. many thanks mike
pjc Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Mike, one way to go would be to involve fanciers in areas who could carry out collections and deliverys with you arranging a trunking service between areas. Phil

Guest IB Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 train repatreation was best way ever for doos {apart from transporters} cost was low service was brilliant anybody else remember getting doos on the train and want to go back to it? phone bt ? Don't think it works that way now, so many different rail companies now, they do things a lot different, most just interested in moving passengers or freight; not that sure that Red Star (Parcels) is even on the go now. Was a member of Lanarkshire Fed at a time when they convoyed by rail; by the time I joined the railway in 1966, that had stopped, and baskets of pigeons for training had also stopped, thanks to the closure of a third of the rail network, and all the 'line of flight' training stations down the west coast (main line) Symington, Abington, Elvanfoot, had all closed, (followed by Beattock in the early 70's, leaving only Lockerbie which I used to train from on Sundays in the 60's). No more 'to the station master at Elvanfoot, liberate clear of wires and record time'. No more station master too! I still train by rail - I take them myself, freebie. Berwick & Alnmouth (East coast, 75/100 miles is the farthest I've been , tend to stick to 20/40 miles now.
amdeliveries Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 HELLO. IF ANY FANCIER WANTS TO RING ME AND ARRANGE TO BECOME A COLLECTION/DELIVERY HUB FOR THERE AREA I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO DISCUSS THS WITH THEM. CHEERS
Roland Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 looks like that going be a problem for those who stuck by amtrak whatever they done with your birds wonder if they be interested in supporting anyone else now who tried to sort out other people or means of getting their birds transported May be the quote was aimed at me… maybe not, but I’ll certain put the cap on. I stuck by them, as everyone knows, because the simple reality is that we couldn't do with out them! Or as one may put it....' You can always do without Tom, Dick or Harry, but how much better can one do with them'! Personally, as some on here can vouch, I travel 100’s of mile to fetch birds… Let's climb of the 'Pie in the Sky; scenario, that won't feed you. Let's be truthfully blunt here. I've seen all the good talk, right words and fight the good fight over the last 25 years and more. Seen anther GOOD courier or two go bust. Seen umpteen not interested yes still heard the constant bleating, whining and moan none stop about the ONLY concern willing and 99% of the time able to do us, and our birds proud. There are, and have been millions transported by Amtrax, and an overwhelming good pass rate achieved. That is a fact! Golly hands up all those that haven't made a mistake at work... have been 100% perfect all your working life’s!!! Seen umpteen calls for Stray centers, seen the Why don't we set up our own relay system, etc. etc. etc. SEEN every time it fall flat on it's *expletive removed* because all of a sudden 'We; become 'YOU' and we / you don't go no further! fact. On here Bewted tried. Great till A. time, Money, effort and 'YOU men ME' syndrome set in. Lets here it once and all for the BOYS - and ladies 'WHY doesn't some one get off their' fat lazy arses and drive around the countries of GB and collect my pigeons for me, and a few other why they are it', safe and soundly, and water and feed them while they are at it'!! AND the encore 'If it's free MORE will want their birds back! Well that makes perfectly good sense to me! Been shouting it for 25 years now... maybe, just maybe some one will if w keep shout long enough in the next 50 years or so ... But in the mean time....
Roland Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Yes i remember well the Trains. How BR even built special carriages for air etc. etc. How the Guards took responcibilty to release training birds, and the strays returned. Also how the fancy crapped on them also big time! Admitted the masses will led like gullible sheep by the 'Own Able' and Trust Me' self interested brigade with their cars etc. 'Pie in the Sky' that was too. The first thing the did was manipulate it so the Back Garden fancier couldn't get his birds tossed etc. And a blumming lot more harm they did / are doing now to this sport with their self disregards for the very basic grass roots.

Been shouting it for 25 years now... maybe, just maybe some one will if w keep shout long enough in the next 50 years or so ... But in the mean time.... Roland, I had a very heated bebate with you some time ago regarding your support of Amtrak, do you remember this bird, it spent three days in a box due to an Amtrak cockup, since then I have come to realise it is down to isolated problems, networking, individual drivers attitude, computer glitches and of coarse some bullshit the same as what will happen with any company that exists.
DOVEScot Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 I have no complaints with AMTRAK , we have a good service here in fife well in my part we have a guy who cares about the birds and hisjob , even when i was ill in bed he would bring them up stairs for me tilli could get them tothe loft, certainly don,t have any qualms with them at all and dovey does not have problems either with them at least not my knowledge so i,m sorry i have to defend them , we don,t have anyone else there is (S.P.D.S. BUT THEY ONLY DELIVER SCOTLAND ) Touch wood I have had a great service from Amtrak lately, partly down to the driver we have, also Chickadee phones both our local depot at Broxburn and also contacts the local depot where the birds are getting sent from or picked up from and she prints out address labels complete with phone numbers and tapes them to the boxes She also pre-orders boxes so they are ready to go when the driver arrives :-/
pjc Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 with the service they were suposed to be offering the drivers were suposed to carry pigeon boxes at all times! Half the time the drivers didn't even know they were collecting pigeons! Phil
Roland Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Dovescot I remember it well.. 'You have shares in Amtrax' lol Anyway I see, respectfully, that YOU have set the stool out a mite to help the drivers to help you! I say a cuppa and a chat if ou remember. They are Drivers firstly and foremost, simply just earning a crust. But if time is taken, and again this is where the whining moaners let themselves and ALL fanciers down, They are to be enlightened as to what and why! Last week in a shoe factory, this week taking pigeons up the road... So what! So they are blah blah... and elievate their ignorance! If instead of moaning and finding fault the VERUY SAME members explained the gist, and there are enough whingers out there to whinge for Europe let alone the county, THEN all the drivers would have been only to pleased to be enlightened. Then a better service no doubt. But the cry then is by silly fanciers 'That's not my job... they should KNOW what they are doing ... Bloody heckkers they aren't stupid they know they need feeding and watering etc. etc. NO they don't know, and why should they..... THEY just get paid for taking a carton from A to B. and They quite right sau the onnus IS WITH the sender to enlighten to any need to be none status and quite blumming right too. Never had a problem granted, but alway offer a cuppa, and ALWAYS mention in a round about conversation to unknowing but probably a intelligent being about the needs. AM deliveries will also employ drivers of the same ilk. Never minf the Ooo and ahhhs, and hopefully will get it right. Let's hope so. Still haven't seen many of the 'Better treatment' brigade putting their services, money let alone time forward. No doubt saving energy waiting for the next thing to moan about. As for Phils' post, well too silly to warrent mention let alone an answer, except to say 'Exactly what I am on about. Stupidity in the highest degree. Never yet seen a newbe know everything'. Remember now, in retrospect, why firms really only ever employ 16 year olds and the likes of Phil... they know it all.

Pick a job, a pub, a club, a pigeon site or any gathering and you will get an Amtrak driver, a newbe, a know it all, a bullshitter, a shyster, ah don't give a damn, I'll do anything for you, an honest one, a liar, a wise *expletive removed*, a dim wit, one thing for certain I have been them all in someone's eyes :)
pjc Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 You may well consider my post silly Roland, I have had a number of occasions over the years when Amtrak turn up without boxes etc. When you then ring the depot etc you get told that there policy is for drivers to carry boxes at all times, which has been qouted to me on many occasions so whats silly?
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 I Duncan, and you'l also get one who eats all the Pies. Cheers Rab

We pre order boxes so we have a stock of them, our local driver started out with ten boxes one day and by the time he got to us he had none left, any time I am in the depot area I drop in and get a load of them. I think you can and if not you should be able to order them from the main depot :-/ I am not supporting Amtrak as I have had some real cock-ups by them but there is a way we can make life easier for ourselves and the drivers surely it helps :-/
