pigeonforce Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 After already lowering our prices we have been looking into making the Scotish prices even cheaper. We are planning on doing a Scottish run ourselfs every Monday, by doing this it would cut the added cost of SPDS The current charge for our service to Scotland is £40 The only down side to this weekly service is all pigeons brought down from Scotland would have to be held over for up to 4 days, during this time though the pigeons will be held in holding pens and given both food and water. this would also apply to birds going into Scotland, By doing this we can bring the cost of the service to the same as what we charge in England £32.50p for up to 3 birds then £2 per bird after. Could you please give us feed back on the fanciers thoughts with regards to this service, before we make the desicion as to which servie would work best in the long run
Ian McKay Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 No holding pens Use SPDS get birds to destination ASAP
Guest stb Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 No holding pens Use SPDS get birds to destination ASAP I would rather pay the £40 and get the birds strait away than save a few bob and have them in pens for 3 ,4 days.
blaz Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 i would rather pay that bit extra .rather than put birds in holding pens
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Wouldn't dream of using a service were they are held in pens for 4 days, make it £40.00 if it means birds can arrive in 24 hours.
Guest grizzler Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 would have to agree with the above answers
Guest strapper Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 when you buy expensive stockbirds you dont want them mixed in pens with just anything...its a fact that some fanciers aint keen on treating their birds. holding for 4 days will no doubt put them under threat from drinking with birds that might be infected with something. why not make it once a fortnight and do a good few at once..thus cheaper for all concerned.
pigeonforce Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 Thanks for your feedback we will continue to use SDPS its a learning curve for us we are supplying a service for you and your oppinion counts, julie
pigeonpete Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 SPDS can get them delivered and picked up from their Leeds depot and at £12.50 a box no matter how many is in it. If you worked on £3 a bird extra for Scotland you would get a profit and loss margin over a season and Duncan thinks it would work out to your advantage and a tidy profit and a great service from your company Duncan does alot of thinking carol :-) :-) ;-)

No I meant £3 on top of their normal charge if going to Scotland or £30 in England and £33 in Scotland. Pigeon delivery is a huge business if you get it right and gain credit with fanciers, but it is not a steady or totally profitable business all year round but it has it peaks and troughs. The high majority of fanciers will go out their way and help anyway they can to help the genuine couriers succeed, there has been a few that have tried and failed since the downfall of Amtrak which was only less than a year ago, all with the same problems "networking" and "profit margins"

pigeonforce Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 SPDS now charge £13.20 for the first 6 then £13.20 for any extra.
chickadee Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 SPDS now charge £13.20 for the first 6 then £13.20 for any extra. That's only £2.20 a bird so if you get them to Leeds you get £30 + £18 birdage - £13.20 = £34.80 on a six bird delivery/pick up £30 + £12 birdage - £13.20 = £28.80 on a four birds £30 + £6 birdage - £13.20 = £22.80 for two birds £30 + £3 birdage - £13.20 = £19.80 for one bird Plus you provide a Monday to Thursday pick up every week a Tuesdat to Friday/Saturday delivery and you cover almost every part of Scotland with less time on the road, a lot less diesel and wear and tare on your vehicles and you could strike up a deal with SPDS if you were giving them a good volume of deliveries If you lived in the Birmingham, Leicester or surrounding areas you could cut it down to £2.50 a bird and still cover the whole of the mainland UK providing a cheap and excellent service, birds delivered the next day and good profit margins with plenty of cash transactions I think we will move before anyone reads this

chickadee Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 chiccadee i think you should go into the courier buisness , youve got it sussed, lol Thanks but Duncan is the brains behind it and I just keep him right ;D ;D ;D As I said before we looked at it but Fife is not the best place to network from, if we lived in central England it would be a lot easier and a very viable business if the right person done it. Scotland is a nightmare and the only reason SPDS manage is because they don't just transport pigeons :-/
chickadee Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 And gets stopped by the police as well , Yes cheats in unmarked cars, it should not be allowed
