snowy Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 whats the likelihood of 3 young ens coming back tomorrow? lost them tonight, flying round together, but just didnt come back in? :-/
THE FIFER Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 ITS POSSIBLE SO LONG AS THEY DO NOT GO IN TO SOMEONE,
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Snowy, last year lost 5 at once, lost on Friday and the last ones came back on the Monday - all returned, and it was a race weekend for the old birds. Didn't lose any off loft, but plenty spent night out before young bird racing started. My young birds for this year aren't flying yet.
perk Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 SNOWY,ALWAYS FOUND MY BEST YOUNG BIRDS HAVE HAD NIGHTS OUT, MIGHT HAVE BEEN FROM ROUND HOME OR TRAINING THEY MUST LEARN ALOT THROUGH THIS.IF THEY COME BACK THEY WILL NOT WANT TO DO IT AGAIN
snowy Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 let a couple of trappers out first thing, as it started to get light this morning, and one of the 3 came back this morning! (jimmy lucky 69 . oh well 2 still missing.

peterpau Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 You might be struggling westy hope your in luck though
westy Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 NO NOT YET I THINK I HAVE SAW THEM AROUN THE AREA BUT NOT SURE THEY STILL COULD COME BACK I HOPE.
Guest Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Westy I have had youngens missing a week then been my first arrival on race day (lol) normally just in time to keep my old bird flying on return. One cock I had missing a week came back as thin as a razor but went on later in life to be one of my best Pau pigeons. Still time yet mate.
Guest Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 When trying to break pigeons or in your case Westy, trying to bring AWOL youngsters down, a good tip I was given is to leave your (old) birds out from first light till dark. Has done the trick for me, both breaking old birds (a 9 year-old only last week) and fetching errant youngsters home. Good luck.
THE FIFER Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 THAT'S WHY I KEEP A FEW FANTAILS, I PUT THEM OUT ALL DAY IF I HAVE YOUNGSTERS MISSING, IF THEY ARE STILL IN THE AREA WESTY THERES A GOOD CHANCE THEY WILL GET BACK
Guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 When they do finally come back Westy, I would keep them apart from your others for a few days to make sure they are OK, I lost a few YBs last year and they eventually turned in after 4-5 days, and they were crapping grean slime, so were spilt away for a fortnight until they returned to normal!!!
snowy Posted April 6, 2006 Author Report Posted April 6, 2006 yes still missing 2, but leaving the trappers & old birds out all day, just incase, seen 1 still flying around but not come down yet, oh well we still hope
rockinrick Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 had mine out for first time today with my shaker in hand and as soon as i called my four ybs trapped within 5 mins i was well impressed lol it jus takes patience westy and a good feed training before hand lol

Guest ben Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 Don`t worry about it son,if it`s your distance babies, they could be missing for a week and come back,if any do,it could be the best thing to happen to them and be the making of them,if they stay away, you got more fresh air in your loft.,so your on a winner whatever happens :)
