mamun2a Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 i got a bird which one wing is destroyed somehow, and it looks like old bird. due to its non flying capacity its run very fast. we collect it as male bird for our existing female one. after pressuring them to be pair, now we found their sex opposite as we thought. the male one is now at down when they met. we are really in confusing. if the bird is old and female then does it lay egg? there she/he is
pjc Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 how old is she? They all only contain a certain amount of eggs and when that amount have been layed over the years they will lay no more.
Guest strapper Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 the bird in question that (as you put it)...non flying capacity, it could have had a disease that destroyed the wings capacity to fly again...possibly paratyphoid. if the joint has succumb to this, then the joint would have been swollen. other than that could have banged the wing at some point. this should not stop it breeding. unless if it was paratyphoid then it may have destroyed the birds fertility?...could also apply to the hen no one really can tell ,as there are so many reasons for this happening...ive just pointed out just two of them.
mamun2a Posted February 16, 2010 Author Report Posted February 16, 2010 dr pjc, it seems the birds wing is destroyed for pulling out its feather forcely. their is very little sign of new feather, i think the feathers will never come up again. but it dont hamper its normal life without flying. does birds do sex like men, i mean female on top?
Guest BRYANBROCK Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 dr pjc, it seems the birds wing is destroyed for pulling out its feather forcely. their is very little sign of new feather, i think the feathers will never come up again. but it dont hamper its normal life without flying. does birds do sex like men, i mean female on top? Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 depends on which position you have sex lol but the male normally treads the hen by jumping on her back

I bet it wasn't they way we do now! Back to the other question, the cockbird treads/covers the Hen but sometimes hens will tread hens and cocks will tread cocks!

Hi Manun2a, please dont take this the wrong way, but you do hold the bird like hes a chicken, are your pigeons kept along side or near chickens ? If they are i would seperate them stright away as some lice/mites are spred by poultry. Open the birds wing up and look at the underside against the light, you may be able to see them. Im not saying that it is mites or lice but it where i would start. Ive found this link i hope it helps....... http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/treatment-plan/parasites-ectoparasites.php if you have a vet near you i would also take him there. sorry i could'nt be more helpful and i hope he gets better all the best Amanda ps could you take some pictures of the feathering. pps male pigeons go on top

pjc Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Well done John, Sometimes we forget we all had to start somewhere and needed encouragement. Phil
Little Bird Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Ive just re-read Mamun2a post i think he is questioning whether the bird he is holding is a cock or a han. :B :B :B Manunaa if you pinch eaither side of the toes together. And 1 poutside toe is slightly longer than the other, the bird is a cock. If they are the same lenth then its a hen. But this method is is not always 100% accurate. Sorry i cant be of more help Amanda
mamun2a Posted February 17, 2010 Author Report Posted February 17, 2010 dr all, the truth is i'm not well conversant in English, so i really dont understand what some of u say. but i dont mind if there is something wrong. i just want to assure that my bird is not on menopause state and whatever they met [male top or female top] they should to lay egg. thank you all.
Guest Freebird Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Usually it's the cock (male) on top but as long as they are opposite sex then it don't matter. You should have eggs about 8 to 10 days after mating and hatch out around 18 to 20 days after laying of second egg. If they do not lay you have a health problem in your birds or they may be the same sex. Give them plenty shell grit as the hens need calcium for eggs. Good luck with your birds and I hope they lay soon. Do you know what breed your birds are?
