spacecreator Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Help! I was eating breakfast this morning and a beautiful pigeon walked into my kitchen and collapsed. It was absolutely shattered and made its way into a corner to sleep. I have moved it into my downstairs loo and fed and watered it and it is quite happily sleeping. I have left the window open all day to let it fly if it wants but it is still shattered and asleep on the shelf in the loo. As I live way out in the fields and it would not get off the floor I am reluctant to put it out at night as it may get attacked so I am leaving it on the shelf where it seems very happy. It has two rings - one green on its left ankle and a red one on its right ankle with SU09 and a number ( I think 2055). It is a beautiful bird - pale beige and white with pale purple breast feathers. I will check the number again in the morning - I hope someone owns the bird as it is beautiful and I would hate anything to happen to it. Please let me know if you can help me! Many thanks!
blaz Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 i will start with thanks.if you could have a look in the morning then put the letters and numbers up someone on hear i am sure will help
just ask me Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 thanks for taking care of the bird im sure someone here will help u out
Guest IB Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Thanks for helping this pigeon, it is a young bird, probably just a few months old. Please look again at the red ring. Post up the full details that are on it. It may read .. SU 09 ... then Letter (s) ... then Numbers. The letter is important for identifying the area the bird comes from, and the full details from the red ring will help us trace its owner.
Guest Freebird Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Well done you and thanks for taking care of this wee bird. It is obviously a special bird as it is friendly and has trusted you with its fate. I feel this bird has landed lucky in that you care for it's being. Give it water with a spoonfull of honey ( if you have any ) and some food. If you have any grain i.e. soup mix or rice or equivelent, then it will gain strength and in a couple of days may take flight home. I'm sure it is in good hands and may even stay with you or visit back, just to say thank you. Whatever the outcome, thanks for being kind and considerate towards a wee stranger. All the best.
spacecreator Posted July 26, 2009 Author Report Posted July 26, 2009 Oh thank you all! The bird is so friendly and has followed me around the kitchen this afternoon but it makes its way back into the loo and onto the shelf as it must feel safe there. I have given it a choice of bird foods ( grains) as I put a lot out in my garden and it has eaten the lot. I have been checking on it and it is fine but still obviously tired. I will give it some honey in the water. Thank you all for your help - I will look again at the ring in the morning and keep you posted. Many thanks - I hope my pal finds its owner soon! Kirst

Guest Freebird Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Put a wee bit newspaper under where it roosts and that will save you cleaning up a mess. Then put your feet up and relax, you deserve it. Where are you located?
spacecreator Posted July 26, 2009 Author Report Posted July 26, 2009 Hello! Bird is fine and I don't mind the mess! I would rather have mess and a safe bird than no mess with no animal! I am in Lancashire. Full code from the ring is SU09 M2205. Hope that helps! I have fed grain and water - the bird was very, very thirsty and has drunk loads! It is very happy up on the shelf and has rested. It is nesting in my towels. We had the most horrendous stormy weather for a few hours before the bird walked into the kitchen so I think it had battled before landing with me.
Guest Freebird Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 You are a GEM and I'm sure the owner will be in contact soon. I know it may sound sappy but people like you are what life is all about. If I feel a bit down I know where I'll be heading. Take care and good night.
spacecreator Posted July 27, 2009 Author Report Posted July 27, 2009 Good stuff! I was worried that I was doing the wrong thing by feeding but the poor thing seemed shattered and the weather up here on the fell had been so horrible. I hope to hear from someone who owns it soon. I am so glad that I mooched on the T'Interweb and found this site! Thnaks for all your help everyone - will keep you posted! Thanks again!
