chubsta Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Hi, im not into pigeons myself but walking along the canal bank this afternoon found a racing pigeon (ringed with race ring on other leg so must have been lost during a race...) just sitting on the bank looking sorry for himself... I used to race pigeons 30 years ago as a kid but nothing since so i know a little about them. Anyway, i picked the bird up and have brought it home and put it in a small bird cage with a pot of water and have raided a local field for some wheat for it. I guess it is a Dutch bird and have emailed the link i found on this site for a Dutch organisation. The birds ring number is: NL2008 1608680 So i am now a little stuck as to what to do with him - he seems ok, bright eyed and is just sitting there looking at us. He has done a few runny, green droppings but apart from that seems ok. Any idea as to what i do from here on in as i obviously cant keep him forever... cheers
THE FIFER Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 green droppings could be to hunger, is there not any pigeon fanciers near to you,
Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Some tepid sugar water will be good for the bird, not too much sugar just enough, a few peanuts will help him. Where are you because one of us is sure to be near you and might be able to take it off you and look after it until owner is found.

kev01293 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 can you lay your hands on some rice, lentils,or barley or budgie seed chubsta as that would tide the bird over for now as fifer said the green droppings are probably due to hunger but at least the bird is out of harms way or maybe a pigeon fancier lives nearby who could help you out with some pigeon corn, if i lived a bit nearer i would collect it from you myself but its a bit of a drive from crawley can any of you kent fanciers help out? kev
