Guest amar Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 hi does any1 on here breed dogs im looking for 2 pups staffs or pitbulls
hepste Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 hi does any1 on here breed dogs im looking for 2 pups staffs or pitbulls My understanding is that it is illegal to own an unregistered pit bull, and there is no facility presently to register one. It raises the question why anyone would want an outlawed fighting dog.
Guest amar Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 i wana keep it as a pet not a fighting dog and if its a pup it will have all the papers with it and if you read my post it dosnt say any thing like aim looking for a unregisterd pitbull
lawrie Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 not all folk with pitbulls use them for fighting. i think youll find that they are very good loyal companions that show a bit of aggression when they feel threatened or to protect the owner. i hate people who think pitbulls and staffies are bad dogs, any dog can fight, attack a child NOT JUST PITBULLS!!!!!!!
FLAPPER 123 Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 hi does any1 on here breed dogs im looking for 2 pups staffs or pitbulls all pitbulls are unregistered...regardless of age or "papers", quote above says you WERE asking for pitbull. where you come from "BRADFORD" is a hotbed of people fighting dogs... staffs and pitbulls are excellent dogs as companions, and in the right hands present no problem its" some" bad people that own them that get them a bad name....
pjc Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 spot on flapper, owners should be put down not the dogs! Our Staffie is best dog ever with kids etc! Phil
FLAPPER 123 Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 spot on flapper, owners should be put down not the dogs! Our Staffie is best dog ever with kids etc! Phil thanks phil...our staff is 15 yrs old and been a loyal and faithful friend, i would trust him with my life...any threat to our home and he would be there, but yet totally trusted round my daughter as she was growing up. having said that i never think its wise to leave any dog alone with children whatever the breed...
allenyeates Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 A common mistake with a lot of people is mistaken identity and they lable any staffy type as a pitt bull. ALL dogs have the potential to bite or even fight. Some strains recieve bad press through the odd irresponsible owner. The nickname for the staff is indeed the nanny dog because of its love of children and out and out loyalty to its owner or family. Belive me the pitt is no different and although no pure breds are ment to be left in the U.K. They still thrive , as do various crosses that look like pitts. I have an 11 year old big staff type(Big Tony) and they make fantastic dogs around the loft. You get no problems with cats any if any unsavoury people happen to see him the dog puts off thier return . The most important thing to remember is do your homework and make sure the breed is for you. My wife has been a dogwarden for years and deals with staffs daily bases were people get them than realise they need more exercise and attention than they are prepared to give. NO DOGS ARE BORN BAD... IT,S WHAT WE DO TO THEM AS OWNERS/TRAINERS.
pjc Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 no dog should ever be left alone with children under any circumstances! We've also got 4 labs and won't even leave them alone with the kids. Phil
chickadee Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 not all folk with pitbulls use them for fighting. i think youll find that they are very good loyal companions that show a bit of aggression when they feel threatened or to protect the owner. i hate people who think pitbulls and staffies are bad dogs, any dog can fight, attack a child NOT JUST PITBULLS!!!!!!! I agree with Lawrie in saying that these dogs are only what they're brought up to do, eg. if you train them to fight they'll fight, if you want them as a cuddly house pet then that's what they'll be, we have a staffy and she is the most tamest, calmest, lick you to bits dog I've ever met.
FLAPPER 123 Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 hes 15yrs old and still a big strong dog...in his prime he was a beuty
hepste Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 hi does any1 on here breed dogs im looking for 2 pups staffs or pitbulls I don't have an issue with staffies. HoweverThe DDA prohibits the sale, advertising, trade, or ownership of pit bulls. You can only APPLY to have one registered if it has been seized. Was the original post requesting a pit bull that had been seized and registered. NO. It was requesting a puppy. Why anybody would want a pit bull for a pet is beyond me, and leaves the motive in doubt. The DDA is there for a reason. We have all read about the recent prosecutions in Bradford for dog fighting with pit bulls, and the horrendous images shown of the fighting. I repeat, notwithstanding the few cases where a dog is registered after seizure it is illegal to own a pit bull. SO WHY ADVERTISE FOR ONE!
Fair Play Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 Sorry if I am wrong was there not an act to say pitbulls had to be castrated or neutered and if true where would pitbull pups come from. I know before that a lot of people crossed the pitbull and staffy which led to staffy type dogs with longer legs which were passed off as staffies which is wrong as the staffies are great dogs don't know about the cross breeds.
DOVEScot Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 We had this conversation not that long ago about the great nature of Staffys, and like any dog they are capable of biting people, the difference is the damage bull terriers or bull type dogs can cause in the wrong hands or if they do turn for some reason. There are so many staffy look alikes going about it is very hard to spot one, pit bulls are not a recognised breed they are generally cross bull terriers and depending on the cross they are ideal for the fighting Pit bulls are banned under the dangerous dogs act http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/welfare/domestic/dogs.htm The single breed reported as being most responsible for dog bites requiring hospital treatment in the UK is ‘the Spaniel’. As we know the Spaniel is not a single breed in it’s own right we must drill down that the minority Spaniels such as the Sussex, Clumber, Brittany, Irish Water, Welsh Springer etc are rarer, it is between the English Springer and Cocker Spaniels upon whom the finger of blame is being pointed. http://www.stopdogattacks.com/dogbitestatistics/ukdogbitestats
