Very noticeable participation by the ladies in those days, something which is neglected nowadays. In those days the men worked and enjoyed their hobbies whilst the women held the household together. This has changed with a more equal spread of family duties which restricts the menfolk from their pursuits. Perhaps encouraging the women to attend would give the men a little more release and freedom to take up pigeons. :)
