NOT to start anything here but how many National Aces or Barcelona Winners are still with the breeders ??? where do they seem to go ??? and who is producing the new ones -

P.S. I still have a few children avaible

personaly i think it works like this you get winners every year but personally i like birds 2_3 year only max in the widow loft n if your stock are still producing winners you have 2 options sell proven stock or sell the winners.

I always try 2 new pairs in the stock loft every year but if there are 3 cocks 3 years old and won only then 2 go in and 1 is sold.

It boils down to keep your loft young

Posted

alan say one of your birds is 5yrs old still producing good birds would you sell it because its to old?

or would you make space by selling one of your younger stock thats not produced?

Posted

If the young stock had been breeding for 2 seasons n not produced they would have been disposed of as soon as the last young bird race was over to make way for younger stock

A 5 year old breeder producing would be left in there loaned out or sold it all depends on what you think of the bird your replacing him with

I have 10 yr olds producing stock and racers I foster the eggs else where for racers I dont think it is quite as important in stockers I dont think an old birds genitics are affected with age just their ability to produce milk and affect the overall health of ybs

I don't see what the problem is breeding from Older stock birds, some of our best stock cocks are what you would call golden Oldies, Studley is 13 and bred winners last year, Maxwell is 12 and bred winners last year and Foo Fighter is 13 and he bred a 300 mile equal first at 300 miles last year.

They are worth their weight in gold to us.

once you have a pair of pigeons breeding winners surely its best to put them in the stockl loft.if you had say 5 pairs of birds breeding winners surely you could push your own birds a little harder. if you had a pigeon that costs £200 and a freebie who would you push the hardest.?you have only to look at the prices of pigeons in the homing world for sale to see why membership is falling, at the end of the end its supposed to be a sport,

Yeah but I also have several race winning sons and daughters of National Ace birds they have pedigree and performance

Posted

I carefully file all pedigrees in a draw then forget them and if they breed young birds to do 200mls yearlings to 350mls two year olds that do 500/600mls then thats a pedigree and there's always room in the loft for 'em no matter where they come from or how much they cost

Post subject: I need help ! !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was surfing some pigeon auctions and I came across a band number that rang a bell - NL-03-1087753 being sold.....at the IPC BV website.

http://www.defondkrant.be/veiling/pigeon.php?id=9604

I bought this pigeon via auction 2 years ago on TopPigeons.NL and had Jan de Wijs ( Pigeonplaza.com NOW Europigeons.nl) pick it up for sending it to me.....in Canada....IT NEVER ARRIVED !

THIS pigeon NL-03-1087753 disappeared - He swore it was sent to Canada but it never arrived to the man who quarantined them and obviously NEVER came to me.

I have emailed IPC BV a couple times and I hope that they will respond to me. I would like to know who is selling this pigeon and how they got this pigeon?

ANYONE BUYING BIRDS BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU BUY!!!!!!!!

I hope you stopped check on payment I would IMMEADITLY go to your sanctioning body and lodge a complaint you could also try tracking where and how the bird was shipped as most carriers keep EXCEPTIONAL records of where packages are at all times as a last resort I would also file a 1099 form with I.R.S. ( if a us resident ) this at least will arouse suspicion from internal revenue, as this was done through computer and common carriers ( again if a U.S. resident )  you have MANY avunues of recourse avaible to you

A person somewhere in the country, claimed that he had a pair of stock birds and every young bird, off this pair, won something.(i don't know the exact details)Anyway a bloke in my club bought this pair of stock birds for 5000 pound! :o :o and every young bird he bred from them eventually found their way to the bottom of the dustbin! :o, so be very carefull, parting with your hard earned cash.

Every winner i've ever had, i had given, I haven't even bred a winner yet, but I keep trying to. :)

p.s. theres far too much money involved in our sport/hobby. >:(

Was he a decent flyer in the first place, as some pigeon men can spend as much as they want but still dont win, as they dont put the work in. Cant always blame the tools, as some pigeon men could win with streetys.

The bloke who bought the pigeons has been flying for about 45 years and he's been highest prize winner in our club for the last 10 years, so yes he is a good flyer. ;)

Yes Rose, far too much money, in our club the members have just decided to do away with 4th prize, so the prizes go 50% of prize money for 1st place, 30% of prize money for 2nd and 20% to 3rd place (4th gets a card, woooo!) so the winner gets the money, which is good IF you win but not very good if your 4th.

But I suppose its all about winning isn't it, if you didn't want to win you wouldn't do it. :-/

I race my pigeons, just to see them come home, theres no feeling like it and in our club we have some very nice tropheys, I'd rather have a trophey than the money, something to keep rather than spend, but I think the price of these so called 'winners' is terrible, I've never paid more than £25 for a pigeon and I never would. :)

p.s Rose what breeds do you keep?

While we are on the subject of buying pigeons, I know a young lad (novice) and he swears all his birds are soontjens, but I went with him to buy some birds and the seller just fobbed him off, saying take your pick son and when the lad asked if  they were soontjens, the seller said yeah!, he then looked at me and rolled his eyes.

All the seller was interested in was taking money off a novice to a fantastic sport / hobby and its these people who spoil it.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, I like to think all my birds are delbars, but you can't be sure anybody can write anything on a sheet of paper.

All I can suggest is you get some pigeons, train them and race them, the basket will tell all NOT the breed! :)

People go into pigeon buying with one eye closed you are better off with one PROVEN bird from a reputable flyer than a whole loft full of junk QUALITY IS NOT CHEAP go where a flyer is winning with his birds and buy his winners PERIOD. We have a saying the apple dosent fall far from the tree, the problem is you still have an apple and not the tree.

I am not qualified to race a formula 1 car ( but I like to think I am ) so for me to purchase last years slightly wrecked formula one winner and plan to win races with it is absurd so logically it would reason if I can't win a pigeon race in 10 years a new breeder is not going to put me in front if you are at the bottom of the sheet every week its not your birds its you! if you are consistently at the top but cant crack the top 1% then its probably your birds

Dont look for the guy waving the great big sign that says what good birds he has look

for the guy hiding in the corner trying to avoid being noticed as he goes to the bank!!!

Dont worry about the pedigrees worry about the diplomas!!!

totally agree slugmonkey. Race your birds, find the ones that wins races - then ones that breed good pigeons and try and found a loft around them. Forget buying in unproven stock at silly prices just retire your champs for free before you lose them.
