yes about 5 or 6 as it starts to get dusk they are looking to get in to roost anyway which makes it easier for you in getting them in

i found it best to let them out after your tea and feed them when they come in lift any feed left any that dont come in miss a feed and will be 1st in the next night after youve got them under control you can let them out earlier and call them in when you want again if any dont come in when called they miss a feed it works for me but can take a bit of time to get them into the habit especially if you've y/bs of different ages in the same section

i will tell you that your dad will be missing the partnership just as much as you prob sitting at home wishing he hadnt fallen out with you and not knowing how to break the ice i bet a phone call or better still a visit would get things back on track good luck
