Kenny , Unbelievable, got a first timer yesterday evening at 1824, may be last in the race, but what agame little bugger. Our first bird is now cleaned up and will be rested for his 4th trip next year. He may be an irritating git at times but he certainly gives all at Lerwick. Congratulations to Frank Bristow, performance of a lifetime, lassic race, classic winner Carl
-
Eventually timed at 1156 today, the bird has a mark and a half from hitting wires, however he has made it home. Well done to all who timed, commisserations to my friend Guy Perry of Perry Bros who I thought would be favourites when it hit 13 hours yesterday Carl

Well the morning has opened up and is beautiful, only blemish being 7 Cocks still missing. I have looked at the early times from yesterday, and can only say "bloody Brilliant flying" to each and every one of them. Great race, great birds 13 Hours 24 minutes to the provisional winner Frank Bristow. Regards Carl

Not heard of any so far, still hoping though. My ETA was a little out

;) ;)Too bloody right Mr Stewart, I will be looking for a fast one, why wait for hours, when it can be done in 7 hours, and you still win the Kings Cup (get real john) Carl

Mr Yorkie I am not knocking Joe Shuttleworth, but agreeing with him 100%. No disrespect meant at all. In my opinion he had it sussed completely Regards Carl
-
Thats the day I am looking for, can we book it now for next Saturday please Carl
-
Joe Shuttleworth from Yorkshire won the Queens Cup from Lerwick, several times, sending the birds that failed on the sprints, he found these had the aptitude for the Lerwick race. Well bred birds that would not conform to his sprint system. That is my interpretation, I used to send my best , and got sick of losing them , if the race was unpredictable which is more often than not. Even blow homes from Lerwick can be difficult. We do have 30 years of taking part in this race to fall back on, however performances show that it is not always the best land racer that excels from the island(for us that is) Hence the Shuttleworth system is what is used. Good birds, but not the winners, from land races Carl

Hi Kenny The Soontjens are nowreplacing the Van Reets and have worked crossed though. Kevin Lawson raced them so well on the North that we had to try them along side the Thas birds. We have found the (Thas)Engels lines have done very well out of Scotland for ourselves and the Soontjens give us another string to the bow. I feel there is Pigeon Racing to Thurso and then Lerwick is a different project. Bids that dont sprint have done wel for us on this trip, however I am still learning to condition cocks( WH )from Lerwick oly been trying 17 years had som great races but lost some bloody good birds in the process. Now using the Shuttleworth system will never send winners on the land to Lerwick again. The birds that fly forever will be the team, this year 7, all have scored good prizes but not won firsts. Van Reets won through to Thurso for us, Soontjens too, Thas have scored to Lerwick also Hope the weather improves as the race is now very near Regards Carl ( Upsall & Frost)

Good Morning Hjaltland Our birds destined for Lerwick this year had their last race before the trip yesterday. It was a blow home and all were home in 17 minutes from first to last. We did not send all, just a few. The team of 6 will be chosen in the next few days from 12 earmarked at the start of the season. All have flown Perth and Fraserburgh this season and will hopefully give a good account from the classic . The birds are Soontjen, Thas and Van Reet, we have been flying North Road since 1978, with some success over the years. Hoping the weather warms up Regards Carl

Many years ago when my dad had a wild bird, (which he hated in his birds) he got a cardboard box put a drinker on it and a food receptacle. He placed the bird in the box with a wire top over it. The box was placed near the back door(inside of coarse) and every time he walked past, he would stop and talk to the bird for about 15 seconds. After a week of this, the bird became very tame and went on to breed very good birds. Worth a try mate. Dont believe the talking helped with the breeding ability

Will be up there with Frank & Stuart

After reading Rolands post , I have had to sit down and stop myself having a heart attack from laughing so much. His comments in relation to the NRCC are the biggest load of bo******s I have ever read.................... The country has prevailing westerly winds, if the wind is in the East the birds will be liberated, however it is far easier to call an organisation than to fly in it and attempt to be ready on the days that suit you. The fanciers at Ollerton, Selston , Peterborough still send and take good positions, however the ex members who show no aptitude for the job run away and form breakaways. As for the birds comuing downn the sea, talk to the members from Norfolk , whose birds dog leg in to there area. Enough said

The race report is very interesting, those first 2 birds were absolute stars, enjoy the read.

Hi Rose You can view the Provisioal result at http://www.nrcc.co.uk/Home.aspx. The race was very hard, with many empty perchs and some absolutely fantastic performances
