Sorry redrocket . My post was kindly directed to Tsykes . CHEERS DAVID

Redrocket ...In all fairness to you ,i too jumped the gunn.. It,s easy as human beings to pick up on what we see and hear at a distance and misconstrude the info'...and more likely on this forum where strong opinions and characters spend a lot of time .. What gave me cause for concern was not the age of this bird so much as it,s claws growing into it's feet ...this birds feet would not of got like this in anyway if good ordinary animal husbandry had taken place (ORDINARY) ...the deformed state of this birds feet led me to conclude that sheer neglect was bestowed upon this creature..Maybe the owner has so many birds he just did not see this birds feet)???who knows!! Whatever the case was, this bird was surplus to the fanciers requirements and he chose this route for it ..not to be commended but this route none the less. Cheers redrocket ...you were only sticking up for a fellow fancier ...i am sure everybody knows this . DAVID When this bird came to me it had a 9mile fly to it,s loft

Hi all..It turns out that the owner in his astounding wisdom put this hen on the road some two weeks ago with it,s first ever toss of 30 mile .. This was a stock bird and the owner was having a clean out !!(7yrs old) I will be honest and say that i suppressed the bird this morning ..I found out the above details later on ...if you saw this bird you would not question my decision .. The fancier(owner) none the less did not seem to give a hoot !!! All the best DAVID

Hi ..Will try contacting sec' tommorow night as he was not around tonight . Just ask me ...I get your point regards my decision about birds future ..i have got it well away from my loft and pigeons ...strangely enough my little cocker *expletive removed* was having a run in my field tonight and out of the dark she brought me a mangled pigeon ...turn's out to be one of my own that was hawked today and i had not realised it ..I would always want to know the whereabouts of my birds i I feel i should try to keep this old stray hen alive if i can and whatever the owner does with her then that,s up to him ..I took the ingrown nails out from inside her foot ..I cant imagine this bird has been inside a loft for a long, long time ...she is a real Auschwitz case.. I will keep you posted . DAVID

Hi . It happened when i was in my late teens ...early eighty,ish..sometime. I am now early fourtys .Along time ago..Very sad for the fanciers involved .. I believe a civil court hearing was had about the loss of bird value and recovery in the way of compensation .

Hi all . As a young lad of around 11 yrs of age i did keep pigeons in stranraer and i can honestly tell everyone this disaster did happen ..i know the men who convoyed the pigeons and what a disaster it was ,i was almost a young adult at the time when this accident happened but it is still very much talked about within the stranraer and district fancier's circles as the disaster of all time ..I believe the river was the nith near annan .This river had risen through the night with an onset of very heavy rain along with a big spring tide ...a deadly combination if ever there was one ... best dog for guarding my birds?
david replied to the wee red hens's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
Dovescote, agree with what your saying mate ..Fair examples i would say! I do have a disastrous story to relay to people and this is not detrimental to the breed in any way as their is good and bad in all living creatures .. We used to look after a staffy for a local doctor and his wife when they went away abroad ... This staffy (Benson he was called )a powerful beast he was but very canny and soft ..he was not the nicest with strange dogs but not unmanageable in any way ..The owners picked him up from our kennels one day after returning back from holiday ...the next day the doctors wife was on the sit on lawnmower cutting the grass.. Benson was always with her running around the garden while she would cut the grass...no problem there until she tried to get of the mower where it started to attack the wheels of the mower ..she told it to behave and started to get of the mower where it proceeded to take her arm of from below the elbow ..the doctor was inside the house and ran out when he heard the crying from his wife upon where benson tried to take him apart ...the doctor ended up getting safely back into the house and called the police where an armed response unit came and shot the dog ,his wife lost her arm and now wears a prosthetic replacement..this is a true story The owners were sensible kind loving people (maybe too kind) and nobody in any way could of foresaw this happening ..this dog was four years old and had never put a foot out of place apart from chasing a cat or two from the doctors property . An authority on dog behaviour and an experienced dog handler summed it up A HUNDRED DOGS A HUNDRED TEMPERAMENTS!!! David . -
