I tried that 30 years ago with an Irish Red Setter I bought to show and it was a total waist of time. I had to build a kennel and run for it, my maw called it an Irish Sooner, sooner shiite in the hoose that ootside ;D ;D ;D

Thanks, I did not know the size of any of them, I looked at making them but it seems they are cheap enough to avoid the hassle as hardwood strips and dowelling ain't that cheap

I'll take you word for it Lindsay, I'm still working on the younger ones

Your right Pete you have to look at the size and shape of BOP, a buzzards is a cumbersome bird compared to a kestrel of a sparrowhawk so their hunting and prey are different. All BOP only feed to survive. Buzzards do take live prey but they always take the easier option and that tends now to be road kill and carrion, I bet i could now count five in ten mile journey just sitting at the side of the roads and eight in the sky on a good summers day from the comfort of my garden as they are so common now :-/

I have four pairs of buzzards in my immediate area and I think they are an asset as you say they are territorial and keep other birds of prey at bay. Buzzards tend to live on the edge of forest and farm land or fields as they feed mostly on carrion. You now see them in abundance at the side of the roads feeding on road kill. Sparrow hawks live mainly in wooded areas as they feed on small birds up to a pigeon and swoop out of trees onto unsuspecting prey on the edge of woodland and now they also use the cover of buildings to attack their prey. Peregrines are cliff dwellers and like all BOP they have adapted to use man made buildings etc to nest and survive. Feral pigeons have become very wise and stick close to buildings to avoid attack that is why in my opinion they are attacking race birds who are only trying to find their way home unlike the ferals :-/

Camilla bought a new pair of shoes for her wedding which got increasingly tighter & tighter as the day went on. That night after the festivities were finally over, she & Charles had retired to their room at the palace. Camilla flopped on the bed and said 'Please remove my shoes darling, one’s feet are killing one.' Ever obedient, the Prince of Wales attacked her right shoe with vigour But it would not budge. 'Harder' yelled Camilla. 'Harder?' Charles yelled back, 'I'm trying darling! But it's just so bloody tight!' 'Come on give it all you've got ' she cried. Finally when it released, Charles let out a big groan, and Camilla exclaimed 'Oh God, that feels so good.' In their bedroom next door The Queen turned to Prince Phillip and said, 'See, I told you she would still be a virgin with a face like that!' Meanwhile back in the other bedroom Charles was attempting to remove the other shoe when he cried out 'Oh god, darling this one’s even tighter' At which point Prince Phillip turned and said to the Queen: 'That's my boy, Once a Navy man, always a Navy man!'

If my birds are out and around the lofts and they are lucky enough to see a sparrow hawk they take to the wing or head into the loft as sparrow hawks attack birds especially bigger ones while they are resting and not on the wing. They do soar up high in the sky but they are stealth attackers and pigeons know this so they are not worried if they appear when they are up high. They also chase birds into exhaustion and prey on them Peregrines are different they hunt on the wing either by getting up above their prey and punching one of them out the sky by dropping on them or striking a flock and taking one as best as they can that is why they cause so much havoc especially at liberation's and groups heading home I still think that at hot spots they should be hiring falconers with eagle owls to sort out peregrines before liberation and race paths :-/

I am the same Frank, although I think you are a man that is true to his word and also others that have posted the same I personally find it hard to believe that pigeons mob any birds of prey, everyday is a school day and I am willing to learn

Fife Federation of Homing Pigeon Societys AGM
DOVEScot replied to alex wight's topic in Notice Board
Well I hope to sort some things out at my club AGM and clear up a few issues, first thing I discovered they had my house number wrong hence I never got any mail from club, federation etc despite applying to join them on a business letterhead with all my info on it. I was in a way partly to blame as I joined as a partnership with Billy and when he died just before the racing season I lost interest but I still should have got information from my club. I will do my best to sort out these problems and move on as best as I can -

Aye it's a pity that some can't see the trees for their heeds. They don't want the job yet they turn on them that do, this is the same in any sport and I have been involved in sports committees at levels for over 30 years. Scotland and in particular Fife and the central west has always been troubled areas for infighting and falling out -
That is the part that most don't appreciate till it happens to them it goes far beyond the lost of the birds, you can move to the other side of the country and it is only a car ride to some scumbags that want to carry on their taunts or further mayhem on your life. You should never post on any sites or forums that you intend any revenge or action against them as this could be used against you :-/

Ode To a Fert. by Robert Burns. Oh! What a sleekit horrible beastie. lurks in ya belly after a feastie. Nae matter whit yi try an dae, a body's gonna hiv to pay. Even if ye try to stifle, its like a bullet oot'a rifle. Haud yer bum tight to the chair, to try an stop the leakin' air. Shoogle yersel fae cheek te cheek, an pray to God it does nae leak. Oot it comes like a clap o' thunder, and ricochets aboot the room, mighty like a sonic boom. God aw michty, it fairly reeks, I hope I have nae sh** me breeks !
