Thanks for everyone's help and advice, due to the nature of the cut I decided to use white thread and sterilize the needle with surgical spirit I did not use glue because the gizzard was showing and did not want any glue leaking on to it :-/

You get different grades of chip board, so along as it is a waterproof or even treated for dampness then they should be ok, same as ply, allso just because it is ply does not make it better than chipboard :-/
