not too sure that the manufacturer has made huge profit from the sales of the actual clocks, most manufacturers look to get the hardware out there at as low a cost as possible to entice as many as possible to buy, then make their constant profit from continual sales of rings. This is the business model used by playstation/x-box nintendo wii etc

it is just basic rule of business----sell clocks as cheaply as you can then get your return on the rings, all the electronic console / games companies do the same, as consumers it is up to us to decide whether we buy the product or not but with a weak pound and a vat increase should we be expecting anything else ? no one forces any of us to use ets and i doubt very much that we are actually being ripped off even though that seems to be the first shout every time any price goes up, everyone is out to make a living and i doubt that any company would be willing to price its product out of a market
