depends what distance you want them for - they wont all go 400 miles lots of good janssen based families around as mentioned above others on my list would be louella, tom sherwood, mr & mrs duggins, fountainhead, petron - and am sure stuart/raymond has some too- de klaks as above also depends on what you want to pay i have been to see derek reis at honeysuckle a few times,
  14. if its te first 2/3 flights or none believe that is fine, it doesnt matter but there will be exceptions, once you get into 5 and onwards its too far for distance pigeons 500+ the moult gets bleamed but a lot of pigeons are sent not in good condition and not fit enough and dont return
  15. i lived next door to the pub where the birds were marked and used to watch every week and club hq, we had some fancy ones and a few strays and then were given a couple of pairs of latebreds to start, i was 10 at the time, we kept these separate and then built a new loft and had mainly racers

  20. agree - you will make a lot of mistakes whilst you learn about your birds and yourself and develop good judgement, it will cost you some good birds perhaps. you need to decide also what you want to compete at and plan for that - advice is helpful but can confuse you too, keep listening but make up your own mind- the change for me was focusing on quality and not quantity and reducing the amount of birds to race and sticking to a system
  21. for me racing when on the North route from suffolk: long = lerwick only - 567 miles mid = 250-500 (thurso 488 miles oculd be won with good pigeons inc yearlings on the right day janssen or busschaert based - but these pigeons wouldnt necessarily score from lerwick, always exceptions though) short - 80-250 miles - some sprinters would score upto perth 356 miles) however, good club pigeons didnt and dont always make good national pigeons - most national pigeons had to come on their own a long way most lerwick and thurso races the birds would probably be out ovwer the north sea
  22. not very often
