Pigeon chat still off .must be a big pproblem
-
I got a y/bird stray in my loft 2 years ago and i reported it . The owner was the fancier involved. I did not race y/birds in 08 just trained to 40 miles . last year this pigeon won for me 2nd club Thurles 3rd club Clonmel !st club Bude 4th club Penzance I hope Paul will keep up with his performances and do well in the nationals if anyone wants to beat him in club racing they are going to have to work a lot harder

I also have a gap at back of loft and have three foot louvers running the full lenght of the front of the loft . no way will i ever close off the airflow as fresh air costs nothing and stale air causing health problems (to pigeons and fanciers) will cost you a lot . I remember a long time ago an article written by "Old Hand" in one of the pigeon papers that the best loft consisted of three wire walls and a solid back and roof plenty of free fresh air ,bloom blown away no PFL no draughs healthy pigeons .

Very nice .What software are you using?

I had them in the early seventies They flew realy well never sent them further than Penzance(306 miles) I do not think there would be many about now as most would have been crossed into other strains and crossed again over the years

-
at those prices it is worth a gamble if you are lucky they might be still fertile only takes one pair of young birds to cover outlay

slug pellets will poison your pigeons if picked up by the birds if you put down a layer of gravel around the lofts the slugs will not cross it -

hi paddymac i think the reason for a late lib was as fred said in a previous friday race " to let the workers get home so they do not lose any wages" no mention of the welfare of the pigeons i sent 16 first timers to this race which have had between 30 to 40 training tosses from dundalk 40 mls and got 2 on the day and 7 on saturday my last pigeon arrived at 19-30 sat night and had 2 strays with her strangely both from derry 1from foyle hps and the other from maiden city i have them in hen boxes in the garage feeding them up a bit as they were badly flown if the weather clears up and the birds are in reasonable shape i will get them liberated near ballymena

if the distances get any shorter you would should get some milers
-
fanciers will be more selective in their breeding programe and rear less young birds so it may result in healthier birds in the loft as they will have more space and fresh air and lead to less losses in racing the feds will then have to put up the cost per crate to cover the drop in birdage it is going to be a very expensive hobby in the furture
-
this will be my 50th year started when i was 12 in a club with 60 members of which 2 were infc kings cup winners i always made sure i race rung all the birds so i could get the feel of good pigeons
