thanks for all thw info lads, more of the feathered fellas came back, so out of the 8 tossed, only 1 didnt return, not bad, going by the age of the poor little chaps the old man has come round as well, he realised the errors of his ways, and racing is back on the agenda, ill report back with his actual results from training properly, thanks again

its my fathers birthday in 4 weeks, and id like to buy him a few ybs, he`s in the process of building a bigger loft than his 6x4, so he only has 10 birds at the minute, so with his loft upscaling he`s gonna need a few more feathered friends is Louella about the easiest place to get birds quickly, because they do deliver to Ireland, or is there somewhere else? oh, and he likes the colours of the Busschaerts, it`ll add some variety i would imagine cheers in advance lads

lads, as a matter of interest, what would the average age of your young birds be before you bring them for their first toss?

yeah, i just checked the dates, i was in Rome 4 weeks ago when he got 8 from louella, im guessing they where only 3 weeks old at that stage, so thats only 7 weeks altogether, way too early parents, sometimes there`s no talking to them though, i went out and got coil rings with our phone number on it, do you think he`d put them on the birds? not a hope, so from wanting to race pigeons, he says he`ll never bring them away again, its not worth a head ache i appreciate all the replies lads, ill try and turn him back onto the racing

they seem to go out for a fair bit alright, there`s another loft behind our house, and they tend to go off with them, then come back about about an hour or so, but i know what you mean, they generally are within sight the birds are healthy alright, all good and big, obviously some are larger than others actually, ive just checked the dates, the majority of the birds are only 7-9 weeks old, thats way too young to start training isnt it??

as stated before, my dad got pigeons, and when im around, ill give him a hand with them yesterday, after 2 minor training tosses, he brought the birds a little further away, about 2 mile, out of 8, 2 never came back, and the rest took over a night to come back the birds are between 9 and 12 weeks old he had only brought them out twice, they got home ok, but not really quick, about 20 minutes for a mile away from the loft, i reckon the father was just a little impatient, and should have kept bringing them to that one spot until they where beating him home how do you lads do it, any help would be great

Hi, my dad has pigeons, and its his birthday coming up soon enough, and i was going to get him a new loft, i cant seem to find anything here in Ireland does anybody have any information on pigeon lofts in Ireand, surely there has to be somewhere! i have a blakes loft catalogue ,and ive emailed Rv Woodcrafts, but id rather get something over here if possible any help would be smashing chris

danger averted, it must have been brusing, he`s back flying again, only out for 2 days, i reckon he could have hit the washing line, poor little bugger thanks for the help lads

just lets my ybs out, ive only 10, anyway, 9 went off fine, but one just stayed in the sputnik, anyway, i go into the loft to give it a clean, the 1 remaining fella finally goes out, but he just cowered in a corner of the garden, i eventually had to pick him up and put him back in myself, i noticed his right wing is hanging a TINY bit low off his chest, not a mile down now, but definetly its a little lower, to be safe ive seperated him from the others, and gave him some fod and water any ideas?

whats the craic lads as stated before, just git a few pigeons recently from a friend, they are all rung, but with a clubs details that he is with, im personally not in a club, and have no plans of joining one within the next year i was wondering could i get those coil wrap around rings with my name and phone number on them, and if so, where can i get them online, ive tried 2 places here in dublin, but nothing there cheers lads

painting the inside of your loft?
chrisbonnie replied to chrisbonnie's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
cheers Kev yeah, it was a bitumen primer, just like the crappy old vinyl floor tile adhesive we used to use, i have a gas torch, and torched it on, not one of your big double blowers like you roofers have, but big enough for a 6x4 shed just built a removable aviary today, pretty nifty, we`re doing our best with the little space we have, you just have to make do i suppose, cheers for the replies -
so an ounce and a quarter is about right for food, but try feed twice a day? i just got another 8 pigeons from louella, they`re younger by about 2 weeks than my first 2, is it ok to feed them all the 1.5oz of feed per day?
-
stunning loft pompey mick, was it custom built for you, or just stock?
-
that was the plan all actually, try and get my head around them this year, then see what happens next year, cheers for the advice lads
-
sorry to rob the thread lads im kinda on the same tip, well, kinda my dad and i got pigeons last week, he had them a s kid, my first venture they`re only 5 weeks old, but flying onto the houses around the loft without any problem, i was just wondering, they dont seem to react to the can shaking to get them back in, they just alwasy come in when their ready, am i being paranoid this early, or is there something im missing?
-
im sorry for sounding like a complete and utter moron, i only got pigeons last week for my first time ever, so you`ll have to break down for me :-/
