stock birds well being

you said it, when i got into pigeons 5 months ago, i got a few ybs from a friend, then i got 8 from louella, out of that 8, i now only have 2, two got spooked from a cat after a few days, another one got lost when he was very young in heavy rain(thats ok ,the guy that caught him in is now a friend of mine, very helpful!!), another got lost ona training run, one died with some sickness, and another got killed by a hawk(that actually upset me big time ) so my new pigeon friend gave me the advice of, if i spend money, DONT LET THEM OUT!! the aviary will be up and ready within the week, so im hoping they`ll be happy with that, its the best i can im afraid, they are 8-10 weeks old, so just too old and strong to be flying around, and expecting them to come back, id may as well burn my money cheers for all the advice lads regarding a club, my application is going in this saturday -
gladdo, stunning birds buddy as a matter of interest, you said your hen gets a peanut, what exactly do you do there? im intrigued

sorry, no idea love (patronising or what ) not in a club yet, so i suppose ill have to join one asap, so i cant get a loft number, and be available for rings etc... the other things im interested in was tyhe fact they see the other birds, will they get jealous, or downbeat about it? and food, how much should they be eating, seeing as their on 24 hour lockdown? -

no idea my man, ive only got pigeons 4 months now, but decided investing in some half decent stock was the best thing to do in the long run -
bought some stock birds last week, i have to say, i feel a little bad for doing so, as im restricting an animal that can fly, from doing what he does, but ill have to pu that to the back of my mind for now regarding their health and well being etc... i have them seperatd from my other birds "obviously", but should they be able to see the other birds, will they get "jealous" by seeing the others flying out? food, how much should they be fd seeing as they dont exercise? and most importantly, when should they be paired up?

crikey, 571 miles??? so would sprint usually be anything up to 200 miles, or less?
-
thats good to know lads, these 2 breeds are the start of a potential "family" for us, btw, what distance is deemed as "sprint?"

amazing lofts as well, my dad has just gotten back into pigeons, so we`re trying to start as best as we can, i have to say, even though i dont know my *expletive removed* from my elbow regarding pigeons, even i could see these birds where class, they just looked flawless, amazing birds, i was actually blown away with the stature of the birds, very tame as well, my dad bought 8 ybs from louella, and they wheren`t in a ha`penny place to your mans birds

could be the chap i dealt with, lovely man, Dick Ryan? stunning, stunning birds,
-
ive heard if the Cooremans, anybody else here of the other ones? i got a few stock birds of both yesterday, they seem lovely birds, and the owner has good results with them ,so im not worried at all, just curious is all cheers lads

he`s 18 years of age?
-
im just wondering who has, or if anybody has a small number of birds that race happily? my father only has a small back garden, so will only ever have about 30 birds MAXIMUM, i see most fanciers around of massive lofts, with an immense amount of birds, is it actually possible to race without that amount of birds?

bad training toss this morning
chrisbonnie replied to a topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
my dear old dad has had a terrible 2 days fancying, got some new stock birds last night, drove over 200 mile for them, some cooremans, andother breed i cant remember, Karl Brock i think??? anyway, got them home last night, decided to do a quick "changing rooms" to seperate the loft, so let our normal ybs out while we where messing about, for some mad reason, come 10 o`clock, all the birds where on the roof of the loft, but then they just flew off got up early this morning, all back bar one that we got 3 weeks ago, who`s sister has won 3 races in here in Ireland in recent weeks :-/ and to make matters worse, my dad then STUPIDLY left the stock loft door open for a second and one of his new stockies did a runner now thats a shitty day!!! oh, and he lost his best pigeon on saturday to a hawk attack too, i nearly forgot that -
thats a chocllate mini egg you fibber!!!
-
so what exactly is it, and how does it make them easier to trap?
-
what is it, and what`s it for?
-

yeah, its definetly a grub issue, i reduced it slightly, not much mind, and brought them 20km away, 3rd toss, and they where back in 13 minutes, i was delighted with that, they beat me home, so the sputnik wasnt open, but my missus said they where waiting on the landing board as soon as they came in ,so thats a result!! oh, by the way, whats conditioner? -
do you think Galway could be the major hurdle there Bandit? im living in Dublin myself, but jaysus, everytime im in Galway its pissing down and windy!!!
-
gutted myself, i had a bird in it, he was never gonna win, but only 18 back is catastrophic!!! fingers crossed alot more return home tomorrow, the family running it seemed really nice, so its a shame to see it happen i wonder what the plan will be now???
