Does anyone know, on the power moult system, when you cut the flight, how long it takes for them to dry out b4 you are able to pull them?? And do you pull them on both wings or would pulling one side force the bird to drop the other side??!!

I think novices should be told from the start that winning doesnt come easy, and that it can be a hard sport to get to the top. Even harder to stay there. The first few years are for learning about the birds and if they get a few good results then fair play to them. I just dont get people who who go on about limits etc. We all know that at the end of the day it takes one pigeon to win a race. Obviously the big team men who know what their doing have a good chance of having a few in the right condition. Its the law of averages at the end of the day. People in pigeon racing will always whinge when their not winning, which is obvious when you think of the amount of time and money that is put into them etc. Ive been getting slagged of in my club (behind my back) for not having the enthusiasm that I used to, and I only send 4-5 birds to the odd race at the present time, whereas I used to send at least 10-16 per race. Forget about numbers, just concentrate on your own birds, getting them into the right condition, and then at least you've done your best! And forget about the money you may win from the race, its the Glory of winning that counts ;D ;D ;D

Just checked our ring list and its my old racing partners bird, ive told him and given him the number, and he will ring the lady later today. Cheers Jimmy

lol - you had the rare privelage of holding him on saturday ;D ;D ;D!!! + you have a daughter of the Cheq cock (the blue flipeys son). But you can have one off him if you like (£200 to you lol - Joking)
-
I always intend on taking a few rounds of him each year, but I dont want to wear him out so only get a pair or two of him each year. He was crossed with a Marcellis pigeon when he bred the son that was 22nd combine, but that hen is no longer with us lol. He is now paired to a Billy Napper hen through Tommy Napper, so ill see how they do. I was thinking of pairing him to his daughter, but I think that may be a bit close for my liking!!! The lad who bred him has refused to tell me were he bought the parents of him, as he whos ill go and buy some more lol. He kept the nestmate to him and its won a few channel races aswell.

Best cock ive got is an 8 year bushaert, won 3 channel races for me and scored in loads of races nicknamed "Mr Reliable", and a son of him has also won 3 channel races, + a daughter of him has bred a winner. He still flys out everyday and still looks like a yearling. Wish I had a loft full of birds like him lol

What time do you think Steve, Im gona try to get out of work for them and was thinking of a doctors appointment at 3:30 :-/
-
You need to find a club, and they will help you inject them, they may have an injection gun, if not you get a needle with the vaccine, but you need two witnesses!! And really, even if there pets you need a certificate of vaccination, if you are to train them, or defra can fine you!!!
-
A kite, good idea - that will get them off the roof lol lol lol ;D ;D ;D (you are right though, i bought a stunt kite, and tried to fly it in strong wind, and got into a tangle - b--tard thing lol)
-
Sorry GOD It works for me, so why is it primative advise, and my birds always trap well of racing, they just know that the roof is off limits.........
-
Keep them really hungry for the first few chucks, and throw a footy at them if they go on the roof, or they will do it off racing aswell!!!

I used to let my birds out down the garden at 6am and aim to get them in for 7ish, as I would be getting mine in someone would let theirs out, so mine would generally come in about 7:15 which was fine for me as it kept the birds fit. It was in the afternoon that I got my problems, my racing partner would let the birds out at 4:30 so I could get them in for 5:30, but the bloke in the neighbouring loft wanted his in at 5 so he could go home, and mine kept his up, as they would go off - come back - then go off again. He asked if we could let ours out after he had his in, but I needed to have them out at that time, so I wasnt down there all night., so we said it was impossible. The next thing we knew, a massive flag appeared, which was put hanging over our loft to scare the crap out of our birds. This was about the 3rd week into the season, and it obviously affected my birds that week. Luckily the birds got used to it and infact seemed help us out as our birds won 6 races and scored in every race that season ;D ;D. We just fought fire with fire and put a flag up near his and left it there all the time, so the birds got used to it. At the end of that season I thought it was all a bit childish and decided that it would be best to race behind the house, to prevent any further arguments lol

LOL 'the joys of allotments', they are OK if you aren't working and have all-day to let the birds out. I put my lofts up at home because I was sick of getting hassle about letting the birds out. The best thing to do until you can get lofts up in your garden is to let your birds out flag them for an hour and when they come in give them a few peanuts as a treat, so they know flag up = fly, flag down means in for a treat ;D

Cheers Mark, I think ive got the dates right to have the cocks driving for our 400miles race in a few weeks . Just realised that this weekend is 120miles not the 90 odd I thought it was :B lol, I will have to get a distance sheet pinned up in the loft lol

Sent to bourges 7 times which is 550miles to my loft. Won it 2 times and was 2nd 3times, always on the 2nd day though, normally early morning. Just need that extra special pigeon to make it on the day me thinks, as mine generally come back fresh enough tp have made it on the day.

The damp weather seems to cause the YBs to get watery droppings, if you watch the forecast or look at www.weather.co.uk and watch out for damp weather, you can give them Probiotics on the damp days and cider vinegar + garlic other days. There are loads of causes though, not just damp weather, if they have taken in too much salt, some plants in the garden appear to make them have watery dropping, young bird sickness, a hard race causes watery droppings. Have a look on www.chevita.com and go to the symptoms section, that will give you a better idea.

The YB was back last night when I got home from work, well flown out, but he will be a better bird for it I think ;D. I will put two hens on tonight to see how they do, its a tail wind so hopefully they will have an easy fly home. They are both as kean as hell on their eggs, so it should be enough incentive to get home. And I took the hens away from two fancied cocks to see if that gees them up. Cheers all ;D
-
Excellent, id repaired the cocks so they will be driving again when we are at 450miles ;D. Meant to let you know, one of those YBs has gone AWOL, this week, im sure he's about as he was well settled and I think he's been spooked by the hawk, just thought Id let u know as me being me, ive not sent the transfer off yet. Will do it this week :B
