    wnr today

Cheers tom. Any ideas on wind direction and speed, Are we in for a quick one?
  2. Sorry mate. All stock birds now parted ready for the moult.
  3. Heres some pictures of my Bert Hession Van reets. jas.
  4. With young birds if you dont vaccinate them very early when you part them and they get exposed to cirovirus the Pmv vaccine can be less effective, This comes straight out of Dr Colin Walkers book on pigeon health. They need vaccinating within 7 days of being parted so that you increase the effectiveness of the PMV vaccine. I think alot of vaccination failure is due to exposure to cirovirus. Alot of studs dont vaccinate there youngsters until they are due to send them, then we get all these types of issues. Its not always the PMV vaccine thats to blame.
  5. Bert hession van reets for us, direct and hand picked by the master himself. Toyboy/toy beauty lines also de jonge staff lines ( probably the best van reet cock to come to the uk). Bred us some beautiful youngsters this year. only had one race this season in youngbirds and they came very well. Jas.
  6. there are birds before that, i had one at the loft at 8.35 but couldnt get it in untill 42. I saw one drop for bromley on the 34- 35 not sure if he had a better trap than i had and got it in. First race for us this year. birds were very nervous on return and the first bird did about 20 laps of pontypool before desiding to land and sit on the loft, it got no better had 12 sat there at one point not wanting to come in, never mind next week hopefully will get better. Jas.
  7. After you have used it have you had them rechecked under the microscope, if not how do you no it has worked, They may look ok but that tells you nothing, What owen has said was true for his yeast infection as it never cleared it up. the microscope doesnt lie, its the same for all illnesses and the reason why a one of droppings test or crop smear is pretty much useless, it only tells you what the bird has now, it doesnt tell you if you treatment has worked, the only way to tell that is to retest them to check that the issue has indeed been cured. I say it again every fancier should own a microscope and learn how to use it.
  8. Hi mickf. What owen is saying is exactly right, and is based upon fact and not hearsay. As owen said there is a quicker way to treat yeast infection, instead of sound off why dont you ask him what it is. Also regarding the flagyl response it amazes me to that so many fanciers dont understand pigeon health. get the health right and you are 80% of the way to success.
  9. Cheers buddy, Good luck to all who sent, should be a really good race today.
  10. What part of get them seen by a vet dont you understand, if you bothered to read it properly you would have seen that, I do not condone use of antibiotics unless you have seen a qualified vet first, I have a very good qualified pigeon vet that i use and when i had ybs thats what was percribed and my birds got over the sickness very quickly. so ytou are telling me you are more qualified to give advice than my vet. Get real you muppet.
  11. You dont get the point do you mate, when they have ybs they are highly susceptible to ecoli, salmonella or any bacteria that is around as it suppresses the immune system, thats why all vets will give you antibiotics is to stop the other infections taking hold, there is no treatment for ybs but you CAN lessen it by reducing the secondary infection, prescribed correctly by a pigeon vet ANTIBIOTICS are invaluable to stopping the other infections that YBS brings. The point i was making was yes the YBS may be gone but the birds are still ill from the other causes thats what causes a lot of issues also.
  12. True, but its not just the youngbird sickness that is the issue, its the underlying issues like ecoli, cocci and canker which goes nuts when the bird gets youngbird sickness, that is why a vet will give you antibiotics its not to tackle YBS as its a virus to which no antibiotic will combat ( antibiotics only work against bacteria ie ecoli, salmonella etc) its to keep the other bacteria at bay. You will always find you'll have a higher cocci and canker count when birds have youngbird sickness due to the stress this is half the problem, the YBS goes but the canker and cocci count is still high and fanciers send birds they think are better when they really aint.
  13. That would be my question also, if shes that special she wouldnt be leaving my lofts.
  14. yeah i would have to agree there. I had the pleasure of handling the pest when i visited geoffs about 15 years ago. A fantastically handling pigeon. one of the best distance birds to race in the uk.
  15. thanks for the info tom
  16. Yeah very well done dan, you were the man that day buddy, I look forward to the challenges in the coming weeks. Well done mate. jas.
  17. Thanks for those that have already posted there lib times if anybody knows the rest let us know. jas.
  18. Whos the 42 bird adam?
  19. Hi all. Im still collecting lib information for my data gathering on clashing, what times did the following feds liberate on sunday the 2nd aug. At bath: gloucester and dist fed. south birmingham fed south west cheshire fed. tamworth fed warwickshire and dist fed. wovlerhampton fed. worchester fed. At Frome: black country sr fed. herefordshire and sth shropshire fed. At salsbury: heart of england fed. At chepstow : Merseyside fed. These lib times are very important for what im going to be doing. It will benifit all feds if we reduce the amount of clashing we get. All you help is much appreciated. Jas.
  20. If you are talking about ronnies lofts he has individual breeding pens for his stock birds, he shows them on the first jim jenner dvd call secrets of the champions, Yes as others said i could watch the dvd again but i would like some photos so i can design mine the same. jas
  21. Putting birds into one pannier has no advantage at all regarding winning or getting more birds, they all leave the transporter at the same time and all set off in the same direction, its good birds that win not where they are on the transporter.
  22. No he never said you shouldnt feed them on basketing day he said they shouldnt go into the race basket with corn in them, I have put through others birds with that much corn in them they could not stand, what owen is saying is yes feed them on basketing day but feed them in the morning so as when they go to the club they would have digested most of it, feeding before they go to the club is irrisponsible and causes lots of issues.
  23. In austrailia they have an appointed person in every club who is trained on pigeon health that has the final say on if a bird goes in the basket or not, we are years behind the aussie who take the welfare of the birds seriously, its time we did also before this sport we love no longer exists because of either disease or we are stopped racing altogether by defra. Its not about GETTING real as you put it its about the welfare of the birds and nothing else.
  24. That has nothing to do with the poor returns last week. I know owens birds well and that would not have made a blind bit of difference. I never feed my birds after 1pm on basketing day and that has nothing to do with the losses, clashing was definately the cause last week. It just amazes me that people who call themselves pigeon fanciers cant see what they are doing by feeding late on the day of basketing, you are adding to the issue of youngbird sickness. Dont take my word for it ask any avian vet and they will tell you the same. By the time your birds are on the move that corn you fed them will no long be in them they will have sicked it up and it will be eaten by everyone else, so they will be just as hungry as everyone else but will have passed on any diseases that they are carrying to others in the basket. I too would be happy to have all my birds in a pannier on there own if i was allowed, that way i know my birds would be safe from the fanciers who have no idea on pigeon health. Read colin walkers book on pigeon health and management and you'll be amazed at what you guys are doing to your birds.
  25. Hi all does anyone have any photos of the inside of ronnie williamsons stock loft. I saw it on the dvd secrets of the champions one and i like the individual pens he kept his stock birds in. looking to build some myself. Any help would be appriciated. Jas.
