If they have died overnight then perhaps the parents are being disturbed and the cold nights have been the problem, You can virtually suspect this is the problem if the nest droppings are firm and not watery so look for vermin such as cat or anything smaller which can gain access to disturb the parents.

Body & Ridewood still supply ink rolls and toulet dials.

Daily Express to-day Page 9 has an article by George Mair who I believe to be a paid columnist writing for either the RSPB or BTO states, The Peregrine is in "rapid decline in Scotland" NOT RAPID ENOUGH is my thinking, with only 1769 Pairs in the UK, which yearly kill 1,291,370 of our feathered friends for food, This number off course does not take into the equation the unpaired vermin of the sky. When the tabloids such as The Telegraph yesterday had a large piece on, message carrying Pigeons, you could bet your bottom dollar the RSPB Public Relations Office would be on overtime..

Type in. "Chinese pigeon carriers" the Daily Telegraph has a report on it..
-
I would have thought the full page 13 article would have encouraged an onslaught of Posts and what are our Unions response to it, as I have thought for many years when the Chinese involvement came to light with the amounts paid for the top European Birds that it would be Government pursuance of new communication in the event of trouble. It does not take an Einstein to work out that this information could be a godsend for us fanciers and the legal cull of all raptors..

I will not be posting again on this subject as the crux of the matter really goes back to the introduction of introducing extra Sections in 2004 to the detriment of Federations and Combines. Sorry Steve I had to let the dogs out But I wholeheartedly agree with you. N/S/E/W is what it should be.
-
It was because due to recognising Mr Graham and that he had been named prior by the President Mr Smith that it was brought to my attention that the first 5 rows were from the South and at every vote they acted upon it as one, Sorry to say but sheep came to mind Steve.
-
Sorry to say Steve but most of the South members were sitting in the first 5 rows to the left of the meeting and one or two were quite vehement against the proposal to create Sec "H" and voted unanimously against. I cannot remember the exact vote but am sure it was passed by 60 clear votes.
-
Well said Steve and its a pity your compatriots from your area at the Nat AGM did not share your view as everyone to a man voted against it.

Humidity is only water vapour in the atmosphere and with a Hygrometer fitted on the control panel I can set the % I want to maintain Steve whether it is warm or cold. I would not know about the East as I am in the West ^_^

Dave, On deciphering your post rest assured that my Loft heater is only on when I am ensconced within to defrost me and not for the colony to warm itself. I do however use it in the Summer in the attempt to maintain humidity levels in the cold damp weather which affects form, or at least so I am lead to believe. You have to remember it is a "radiated" heat Panel and not a heater as such it suggests. Their is a difference..

Perhaps those with a reasonable memory will recall that I always pair up with the Full Moon which is To-Morrow and that was my intention, however with Blizzards outside the house, the Metropolis under 18ins of snow and drifts in the garden 3ft deep I am putting that ridiculous thought out of my head. The next Full Moon is the end of March so will go with the New Moon on St Patricks day instead for a change.. Visiting the loft is not a pleasant experience in this climate for me or the colony..
-
Aye, Empty them 1 Hour after feeding which gives them time for a second drink. I know some people stick a candle in the drinker then send for the Fire Brigade when the Loft burns down, Just a bit of humour but I have straw in the loft and some straws are extremely light and blow about so Personally any naked flame is a no go. Wee Mary says the Loft Heaters run away with too much Electric and if the wild birds can survive then so can mine.. Had the Dogs out at 22.00 Hrs and the outside thermometer was -10c with the wind chill..
-
With winter returning with a vengeance I was waiting till the blizzard conditions abated before venturing down to the loft. It was to no avail as the conditions worsened, So wrapping up warmly and Muck Boot Wellies on Guaranteed to -20c went forth into Snow 9" Deep and Ice Balls falling from the heavens, The Colony did not appreciate the Snowman entering the loft and were extremely wary even though speaking to them all the time in an attempt to calm them down, Heating on full blast soon had the snow melted from Loft Coat and Boots in the -4c environment, Drinkers replaced, filled, and with inmates fed to appetite it was a welcome return to warmth of the house and a cuppa. One hour later I was back down emptying the Drinkers for to-morrow so I wont be breaking Ice again, I reckon Wind Chill factor would have the Temp about -10c and wish we were back down South again. BRRRRRR.

So PENFOLD,, Jobbie stirrer, My big mate was rather upset when on the phone that you are once again stirring the Cess Pit and in future their will be no more sob stories accepted from you WHO was given a FREE NEST MAT due to you pleading poverty. All you have succeeded in doing is to give us Pensioners a bad name when all we want is a little help with our meagre income

Aye Andy, the Cocks are only doing about 45 Minutes before dropping since I inadvertently dropped the window in the Hen section and they had a good keek at the future Ladies in Waiting, They are also a touch on the heavy side compared to the Hens even with the rations cut back a wee bit and am quite surprised as the feed is the same quality to all.
-
Hens out this morning in an attempt to have them out before "Him doon the Street", "Him roond the bend" and them doon the Avenue can see them and participate in a joint exercise. They were gone in a Northerly direction in the blink of an eye and away only returning high up from the South and headed Westerly. Meanwhile I was watching a "murder of crows" diving and jooking about before splitting into pairs so it looks like Spring is springing regardless of the weather forecast, It was an Hour and a Half before they decided "Hens" to return to the area and show themselves to the Cocks in the veranda.. Me, I was in the greenhouse with the heater going full blast, Bugger that its cauld.

Cocks out early this morning and the Young Bird team went as well which was a surprise and was more surprised as it returned itself and went through the Petron trap as if it had been doing it for years, Mind you it is 38 Days auld and clever like me "Self Praise".
-
Aye Phil, I think you may have missed the "Meat" of the subject, For example, If I wish to give more protein then I can feed Livestock Feed Barley and if I wish to feed more Carbohydrate then I can feed Malting Barley, Their is also the difference in the co/op definition, which is Co-Operative meaning the group of farmers supplying the Brewery, and Co-Operation where the Brewery instructs the farmers in the Co-Operative what is required in Fertilizers ensuring high yield Carbohydrate Barley. As I said in an earlier Post "I Never Knew That"..

The last couple of days has been marvellous for the birds with them flying high in the heavens and without the binoculars would not be seen which has been the reverse of earlier in the month with the obnoxious weather keeping them low round the rooftops. Long may it continue. It shall not be long now till the Honeymoon period commences and no doubt exuberant mayhem will be the order of the day in the loft and to be perfectly honest I could not care where they go to nest as long as they are happy and contented, No doubt their will be problems as their are about 10 Cocks more than Hens, But I will do as I have done for many years and just open the section door and they are left to their own ministrations, It is rare to see any squabbling taking place with ample room abounding and floor nests in the straw deep litter just means watching where you put your size nines. The Young Bird team has found the feeder and drinkers and now looking after itself having been Jagged on the required date and the needle has been put back into the fridge till later in the year.

Not that simple John as Wee Mary would lose her flower bed and clothes drier area, plus thirty yards in front would have them facing three differing heights of cables reaching up to the house eaves and Street lighting poles. Hope your broken ribs are easing off mate.

Heart in my mouth to-day with 30 Cocks out when a crow came over the top of the house giving them a fright. The bang as they took off had them crossing the Roundabout at the same time with the Birds below the group unable to gain height due to the downdraught of the birds wings above which had them at three feet high before rising, Had their been a vehicle in the vicinity then another accident would have occurred. Now I have never had this problem before and have to put it down to too many birds flying off at the same time. In the past I would never have had more than 20 flying out at any one time and the quicker I reduce the team the better, Perhaps being given 5 years notice to vacate the property by the Landlord will be a godsend prompting Wee Mary and I to look elsewhere with NO ROUNDABOUT or main Road adjacent..
