Nice looking birds Ben. Have you had any youngsters from the 1998 hermans cock and the dutch fabry hen?
-
They're certainly well fed youngsters Ben - I don't think the top one could get any more in there ;D
Does it have a bronze look to its feathering ? It would be nice to see more pics when they are a bit older, perhaps Rorythered could put some pics on when they've settled in

We went early Sunday morning
Lier is 11 miles from Antwerp
Don't know if it is every week
-
did lier market get banned this yr
No, I was there last week, its worth going, but you need to be up early
Latest news from RPRA concerning imports is:
6.02.07
With regards to purchases from Lier Market there are no specific restrictions and anyone purchasing and importing birds from there, or any other EU country for that matter, need to follow the current import regulations i.e. veterinary health certificate etc. Those fanciers living within the restricted area in Suffolk will need to check with the local DEFRA Area Health Office as to the specifics there.

drewler,as I have more than a passing interest in pigeon genetics could you please post the genetic make up of these birds. What genes present, are they sex linked and are they dominant or recessive.
To me the 1st one looks like a brown or dun chequer, the 2nd possibly a dilute blue or exhibiting a similar colour reducing gene and the 3rd looks to have indigo.None of these I would describe as red.
Finally, could someone please explain the term schaile as that is a new one on me.

All the pigeons of the Janssen Brothers to this day can be traced back to the Ceulemans pigeons and the "Schalieblauwe van 1932". The particular red checker colouring with the silver head feathering that is unique to the Janssens is directly attributable to the Vos van 1919 and others bought from Ceulemans. Meanwhile the more famous slaty or schalie colouring stems from the Schalieblauwe van 32 (Schalieblauwe meaning slate blue).

AI LATEST
I have taken a phone call from a DEFRA official tonight who has advised that the sudden death of 1000 turkeys on a poultry farm in Halesworth, Suffolk has been confirmed as the H5 variant of bird flu. Tests are continuing to see exactly which variant it is (N1, N2 etc) and this will have a bearing on any follow up action. As an immediate step bird gatherings are to be banned. The AI contingency plans will therefore kick in with an immediate exclusion zone around the farm.
Whilst this is not good news (and DEFRA were very surprised that this outbreak appears to have arisen out of nowhere, the nearest recent outbreak being in Hungary last week) we should not at this juncture accept that this is going to curtail racing and other gatherings. The contingency plans work and work well and do not necessarily mean that everything will grind to a halt. Clearly though fanciers living in the vicinity of the farm are likely be more affected for the immediate future.
I understand that further tests on the turkeys on Saturday will determine what variant we have here and I will of course report again when I have something more concrete to report and DEFRA has more information. What I do not want is the doom and gloom merchants telling everyone that the racing season is off!
I regret due to technical difficulties I am having trouble updating the RPRA website but will get this sorted as soon as possible next week.

Shortest 55 miles, longest 240 miles but I am one of the shorter fliers in the NEHU
-
In order to race birds under NEHU rules, the bird has to be registered with the NEHU (foreign rings), you also need a certificate of origin, showing that the birds have been vaccinated for PMV, signed by a vet from the country the rings were issued in, plus the ring card, which all has to be sent into the union office, or you cannot race them. :-/ don't know the RPRA Rules on this
