  1. He is indeed. He still looks like a 2 year old!!! Not the best of photos, must take another one
  2. "Dot Head" winner of 14 x 1sts we bred and raced him only raced up to 184 miles bred 1997 and still with us, a super pigeon bred 6th Open irish classic 2007 3000+ birds.
  3. Was that the race our pigeon bred 1st Section 2nd Open !
  4. Not to down another stud but we would NEVER send out sick birds!!!! The best birds are NEVER ill. Any bird here with an illness get two days to recover, no medicen, otherwise in the bin. Can't remember the last time we binned an ill pigeon! I can't say how strongly against sending out ill birds I am, it's not fair on the customer put's their hole loft in danger!
  5. We don't make money as a stud! We were selling pigeons from £40 each at Blackpool! Even at this price you are still getting children of winners or brothers and sisters to winners. We also give many birds away to charity auctions, I have also loaned out at least 6 pigeons this year to new commers to the sport and people returning to the sport. Just from one pair I loaned out last year the person bred 8 pigeons and still has 7 after a tough youngbird program. What annoys me is when people by pigeons for £20 when the pigeons are so far from winners it's amazing it knows how to fly! No one can gaurantee winners from any pigeon but I don't see the point in wasting £20 on something that has the slimest of chances of producing a good bird when you can get a child or relative of a winner for £40 and give yourself a better chance. You get what you pay for! But I do agree thousands of pounds for a pigeon isn't nessaccery
  6. I ordered some floor grills before Christmas and was told they would be with me before Christams and I've phoned them 4 times since and promised different dates and still haven't got them!!!!!! I'm not happy at all especially as they've had my money from day one (over £100) and I'm not prepared to put them in the loft now as youngsters are hatching everywhere and can't afford to upset them now!!!! NOT HAPPY AT ALL!
  7. That sounds like a very good idea John. The only way to move forward is to get rid of those not performing and thats hard to find out. To get one off T3 Phoenix you may have to do a little more Roland
  8. To those who have left the comments above, I was just wondering if it would be ok to print out and display them on our stand at blackpool?
  9. Thanks for this information JSTOON and to also thanks to the Navigator. More of this information is needed by us as we knew the 10 hen is fantastic and is still breeding at 14 years old but we have been consdering letting Jubilee go as we haven't heard much of his offspring. So maybe we'll hang onto him unless anyone fancies him?!?!?! We know/suspect that many fanciers who have success with our birds don't let us know directly if at all because they think we'll then put our prices up due to the success! Unfortunately this has led to us destroying stock birds that we believe have produced nothing much, only for fanciers to turn round a couple of years later and ask for more from those birds because they did so well with them! If we know your results we can keep improving our stock even faster! We were thinking of running a competition to to give a prize to the best performances achieved by Tumley Lofts Stud pigeons to encourage people to send in their results. What do you think? Or would you good folks out there be willing to send me through your results?
  10. Dear All, Intersting comments above!!!! I do agree with the point that it can't go on as it is. As a stud we will be sending out up to 30 pigeons a day when the young birds come along! Now when couriers say they do the UK mainland and we've called them and have been turned down because we're in Okehampton, Devon and they don't come that far!!!! We have a bit of a problem! It's a bit tricky for us to deliver our birds because we have customers up in the far north of Scotland. Anyone is welcome to come and choose thier own birds and collect them but pigeon fanciers are a bit thin on the ground down here! We are very pleased with the courier service we have been using both sides have had to make compromises at times but we both understand the situation and we have to try and work together to help each other. I don't want to get into any arguments so that is the reason I'm not naming the courier but thay know who they are.
  11. Welcome. The site is great. Hope you enjoy it
  12. Dad's fine I've just been speaking to him up the loft. I'll pass on your regards. The winds a bit brisk here today hows it with you? Much warmer though
  13. I agree with everyone else here. It's cold for pairing up. I paired the stud up the week before Christmas all but the yearling hens went down within 8-10 days, some of the yearlings have started going down but I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up then I think they'll kick into action. It is certainly warmer here in Devon taday
  14. Thanks for all the welcomes. I've only just had the chance to revisit the site so sorry for not keeping in contact. I hope you all had a great Christmas and I hope 2009 is a good year for you all.
  15. Hi all, We've had Aardens for nearly 20 years now and from the time we introduced them to the loft til now they have won at the distance but don't write them off over short distance if it's a tough one. I've just bought back one of our won birds (2004 bred) and she has won from 60 miles through to 617 miles flying into Scotland! They have won at every level of competiton including 1st Scottish National! Not much more you can ask of a strain! We only keep around 15 pairs, so for these achievement to have come from such a small group of pigeons is outstanding.
  16. Hello all. As you guessed from the title I'm new to this forum and this is my first and only forum I'm registered with! Typing is slow and spelling is something to be desired but I'm up for a challenge. I'm James Cook from Tumley Lofts Stud and happened to find some quotes on this site about our pigeons which as far as I know have all been good phew! Not sure what half the symbols mean but I'm sure it'll all make sense or my wife will as she's a forum expert. I've made a couple of posts so far and it all seems fun and time consuming and on that note I'd better leave it at that. I hope to visit frequently and have some constructive comments to make. See you all soon. P.S. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
  17. Hi Tommy, will do. See you at Blackpool. Yes anyone is more than welcome to come and visit there's always a cup of tea and piece of cake awaiting! No pressure to buy, it's always good to just meet other fanciers.
  18. I only found that thread today and that's what made me join because I wanted to thank the people that left great comments about us and I've learnt a bit more about how our birds are doing for other people. Good feedback can only help
  19. If you look at my results page www.tumleylofts.co.uk/results you will see pictures of what we have won and what other people have won with our birds. We have had a break in racing to our lofts mainly due to moving, also it is 1 hour drive to the nearest club! And we have very local raptor trouble! BUT I am going to get a young birds race team together 2009 fingers crossed. Our stud doesn't make money otherwise I wouldn't be working as and Electrician and Builder 6 days a week! If you look at our home page you'll see what pigeons we have just bought in they are either direct off winners or are racing birds themselves. I have just purchased back a 2004 bred Aarden that was bred by us and raced in Scotland winning from 60 miles through to 600 miles! We love hearing about how our pigeons get on and how excited people are when they do well with them. Some people are satisfied with Club results, others want more but we are always striving to improve on what we have/have bred. We were all over the moon on Saturday morning at 6.45am when a South African friend phoned and congratulated us on a 3rd Hot Spot win in the Sun City race, even though its not flying to our loft, to think we have chosen a bird that has beaten all those others from around the world I can't describe how good it feels. The stud is my mums fault when dad was spending so much money on buying birds to beat the other fanciers she said how about trying to recoup the money by selling a few and thats how it started 25 years ago! We have made some fantastic friends from all over the world doing this, not often you get the chance to meet such a wide variety of interesting people
  20. Hi All, just joined this forum. As a stud I would like to add a bit of advice from my side! So here goes and I'm sure some of you are ready to rip me to sreads! You don't need to buy a pigeon to get a winner! I know people who win with pigeons off the chirch roof! BUT this doesn't work for everyone. We don't buy names we TRY to buy winners if we can afford them. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree is my point. What pigeon/strain wins for one person maynot do the same for another! The only way to find out is to try. We give breeding stock 3 years to produce the goods if no reports are heard by then they are usually distroyed and yes we have killed excellent breeders but know one tells us till it's too late! A pedigree is only as good as the person who writes it. As said earlier on, the basket will sort out the good from the bad. Not sure if this is much good advice or me just rambeling. Cheers, James.
  21. I would like to thank everyone for their kind remarks :) I've just registered so that I can leave this message as I'm not a forum person. As I'm here I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Cheers, James.
