  1. IF ALL YOUR OWN BIRDS ARE FINE AND IT IS JUST THE NEW INTRODUCTION THAT IS SHOWING SIGNS OF DISEASE I WOULD ISOLATE IT PERMANENTLY REGARDLESS OF ITS 'QUALITY'. WHY ASK FOR TROUBLE, YOU SEEM TO HAVE DONE ALL YOU CAN TO CURE THIS PIGEON.
  2. 8/8 but off the pace again, They romped home in the Solent from Kingsdown, over 1700ypm with good returns.
  3. Is anyone still racing the Alf Baker birds? I had some a good few years ago, the bloodlines are still in some of my birds but very dilute, I would like to re-introduce some if possible.
  4. Very helpful Craig, I like the Meteox site.
  5. Solent liberated 09.15 Lt NW at Kingsdown
  6. You will probably have to resize your photos first, go to www.naturpic.com and download the photo resizer program, it is really easy to use. Then click on the 'More Post Options' box to include your resized photos. Hope this helps.
  7. According to Dr Colin Walker, ( The Flying Vet), ' During exertion, both water and electrolytes are lost from the bird's system' and he goes on to talk of the need to replace lost electrolytes.
  8. Portsmouth 08.00, 90% Cloud, WNW wind, overnight rain, quite bright.
  9. Solent Fed is at Kingsdown, I hope to send 8, I was sending 12 but I had a disastrous toss on Tuesday from Arundel 25mls, a beautiful day. Liberated 14 at 7.30 had 8 at 8.30 1 at 12.00, 1 at 16.00 and 1 at 17.00. Two of the three missing birds had had all four races to date. I've had pigeons for over 40 yrs and still can't fathom them out.
  10. I have just checked out the Chale distances on the NFC website and out of 225 members in Sec B 222 fly 40mls or less, and the vast majority of them fly less than 30mls, Sec A fares better, out of 180 members 88 fly 40mls or less. This is a combined total of 310 members flying 40mls or less from Chale compared with 40 members of Sec D who fly 40mls or less from Sennen Cove. I know that the NFC is in a no-win situation whichever racepoint it picks but they have upset an awful lot more NFC members by choosing Chale.
  11. In 1965 the Pau NFC were liberated in a strong SW wind with torrential rain at the home end. We were standing in the back doorway out of the torrential rain when a pigeon came into view at 6,00 pm. He landed right in the centre of the loft roof like a drowned rat. I ended up like a drowned rat after it took 25 mins to coax him to the trap. I still got 26th Open so it was worth the soaking. Incidentally I had moved earlier that year and he was a broken-off pigeon.

  15. Portsmouth 06.30 Fine & settled start to the day, light west winds, plenty of broken cloud, dry at the moment.
  16. Go to that website again Speedbird and click on 'lofts' on the top bar.
  17. What a slap in the face for the committee of the Solent Fed, this year they have manipulated the race programme at every opportunity to cater fot the needs of National flyers, changing routes and racepoints at the drop of a hat to cater for the whims of the NFC with no regard to the rank & file members and this is how they are rewarded for their deference. I can see another committee meeting being called and race programme No 8 being implemented with races from Ryde & Newport hastily incorporated to prepare us for the forthcoming national races.
  18. Adam, If you look in the Members Photos section and go to the 'Small backgarden city lofts' thread, you will see several examples of Sputnik traps fitted to lofts.
  19. I can see no reason for the Shows not to go ahead, unless AI breaks out in the UK. The current permit which allows gatherings has no time limit and will remain in force all the time the situation remains stable. When we had the AI outbreak in Scotland DEFRA only imposed regional restrictions. I don't know if DEFRA will want the RPRA to regulate the Shows as it is doing with the races in England or that individual Clubs will need to inform their local Divisional office. With a General permit in force it should be easier to organise than last year when we had to apply for individual permits.
  20. You need to find a local stockist, I would think Rose could help. The nearest stockist I can think of is Shergolds West End Southampton, they stock a good range of corn and specifics. You can find their address on www.shergolds.com They will be others in your area, find a local fancier and ask.
  21. Solent are at Yelverton, I will be sending 8, possibly 10.
  22. 9/10 from Kingsdown with the Solent
  23. It's broken cloud & blue sky, blustery northerly winds, our birds romped in from Kingsdown, lib at 6.30 , I clocked at 8.23 for 93mls.

    clock

Hi Ted, I,ve got a Super Toulet and B.Leefe serviced mine many years ago, The only trouble is that there are no spares available. They are a fiddly clock to set but give a good clear printout. I haven't used mine for several years now since I got a T3. Incidentally mine was bought new in the early sixties for the Sum of £36.00 which was a lot of money then. I would have thought that purchasing a recon T3 would be a better option as servicing these clocks is not cheap.
  25. Portsmouth, 07.30. Stared bright but cloud piling in , brisk cold northerly wind. 90% cloud cover at the moment. My birds are up at 6.30, hope they get a move on. Better weather to the West,
