  5. i know bobby carruthers a very nice man who gave me birds when i started out henrik we dont know if the birds cleared or not but would the midlothian convoyer be looking for lanarkshire birds 2hrs after liberation that might be flying a mile or two from the lib site
  6. if lanarksire's 8000 birds never cleared the race point would that not hold up midlothian birds back
  7. i agree johno i for one think new convoyer and race controlller new team of three for race controller with a new convonyer use experenced fanciers at the racepoint to give the convonyer some local knowledge on liberation new line of flight team right up our race route use video/webcam so we can see the liberation use the internet to get the most up to date info on weather a new transporter as the one we have is crap a report on the liberation and race to be supplied from both convonyer and controller team
  8. this was recieved from steve appleby I have researched my archive images and can only supply the following 2 images which are attached. 1) Satellite image captured at 08:00 which shows full cloud cover over the Darlington area.(circled red) 2) Rainfall radar image showing some patchy drizzle ( circled red) over the same area supporting the fact that cloud was over that area at 09:15. There seems little doubt that your YB's were liberated under full cloud cover. Liberating Young Birds in under these weather conditions would have certainly not have afforded that essential good start. The Young Birds would have circled the race point flying forwards and backwards searching for lines of flight. Some of the cloud in the vicinity carried some light patchy drizzle and if none was evident over the race point then the fact that drizzle was identified in the area is clear proof that the cloud was heavy enough to generate drizzle. (see radar rainfall image) Any pigeons finding their navigational line would have been further obstructed by continuing full cloud cover further north. ( The sun must visible to be able to liberate young birds.) The cloud did break up quite quickly after 09:30 hours confirmed by later satellite images received. I was advising the UNC with approximately 35,000 pigeons at Bubwith and we were aware of the inclement weather (Scotch Corner) on their line of flight north. After waiting for conditions to improve near their home end, about 50 miles north of Bubwith, liberations took place from Bubwith with the sun shining resulting in very good racing for the UNC members. I hope you find this information of use. Regards, Steve.

  15. Updated Saturday 5th August at 08:00 Weather As we all know weather fronts control our weather and that is the case today. A warm front consisting of low cloud and patchy drizzle is positioned lying across western England, including the West Country, Wales and north western regions. Some fog and mist has also been detected under this cloud, mainly in areas of Devon and Cornwall. The better conditions are over to the east effectively producing an east west split with the east seeing the better weather. (See satellite image for detail.) Obviously where cloud cover (some of it heavy) persists, liberations will be prevented especially with young birds. The Met Office forecast a gradual improvement for those areas affected by cloud as during the morning breaks will appear allowing the sun to shine through, but it could be until early afternoon especially in some western areas before conditions are satisfactory to liberate. Then it is all down to the skills of the convoyer. North eastern areas, Newcastle in particular are under some cloud but the remainder of the eastern side of the country will enjoy fine sunny conditions and good visibility. A warm day with temperatures reaching a maximum of 25
