  4. 7570 came through in 4th I believe on the last update. It's just waiting till closer to the race to come into form. LOL Carol
  5. I would check for respiratory or other health problems. Especially if the whole club is having similar losses and they are mixed in the baskets. Carol
  6. Good Job!! Snowy and Westy!!! I remember my first race, I waited and waited till they called to tell me it was time for knock off and I still had not seen a feather. I only had 10 birds and only got part of them back. By the end of the season I had only one bird left. So your first race and your plan for the season is a GOOD one!!! Carol
  7. Hi Jack, I recently purchased your book and I am enjoying reading your views and theories, it gives a whole other perspective to think about. But I have one little complaint. I have not gotton far into the the book but have run across a couple type o's. One in particular was the treatment for herpes virus. The first line is just not there. So although you give detailed instruction on how to treat, what you are using is left out. Could you fill me in on what your using? Yours in the sport. Carol
  8. Happy, Happy, HAPPY Birthday to you Linda!!! I am thrilled for you, I know the feeling when someone is able to pull off a surprise like that. It is a day you'll treasure and never forget. Good Job Steve!!! Hope you got lots of pictures to post on your website. Carol

  13. That is sad pigeonpete, but the longer that I am in this sport the more disgraceful things I see and hear about. It sure does not promote the sport!! Carol

    Dropped Wing

I have had them like that, no other sign of illness or anything. Sometimes they can't even fly. I ended up useing them as breeders. One in particular I was really glad I did. It produced my Champion cock last year and several others that have raced very well. I think someone was looking down and said you better save that one...

I would take a closer look for more symtoms or clues Sean. It could be that their just not in shape yet as Diamond Dave suggested, but you are right to suspect respiratory. I would go into the loft while they are roosted at night and have a listen. If it is respiratory you will here it in their breathing, hear rattles and sneezes. Also look in the throat, is the line in the middle of the pallett straight or swollen? Is it red or bluish? Look to see if there is extra mucus that connects from the roof of the mouth. Or if the mucus comes from the top down like from their sinuses or from the windpipe up. Do they scratch their nose or yawn, have any wetness around the ceres or nostrils? Hope this helps and hope you find the cause and solution. Carol
  19. They will most likely dissert them if you move them to a new loft. Maybe if you have other pairs setting in the new loft you can give them an extra egg. But timing is important. If you just go ahead a move them they will probably make a new nest and be back on eggs in about 10 days. Carol
  20. Glad to hear there will be a 2006 competition. Did I miss it or is it yet to come? Carol
  21. Thats wonderful redcheqhen, but don't give up with the microscope. Have you tried to do a crop flush yet? I don't have any warranting it yet but I am ready to give it a go. I did find 2 roundworm eggs out of four slides I prepared. I was about to do my routine worming but decided to check first and did find a couple, so I wormed em all. Carol
  22. I would seperate it and treat if it shows outward signs of distress or has a runny eye. But watch the others as well, it spreads like a common cold usually through drinker and feeder. I had an early batch of yb's coming out of lights in Feb. They immediatly began a heavy body molt (stress) and like you I had some new birds, with new birds comes new strains for your birds to build up immunities to. I started hearing sneezing, then I had one with a runny eye, I made the dicission based on Dr. Walkers book, to treat this round. They all are beautiful and flying great now, have been trained out 25 miles no problems. The next round were seperated by a wire division, so they were exposed but did not drink and eat from the same containers. They went through a sneezing stage but no one eyed colds so I didn't treat them and all is well. By far one of the healthiest and most vigorus batches of YB's we have raised. They fly and fly and I have only dropped 1 out of 90 since I started road training. Carol
  23. I guess if respiratory disease has never been a problem for you peterpau, then no. But as doctor Walker states "In race birds, signs of Chlamydia flare-ups are considerably more subtle." Have you read Jack Barkel's articles on his thread? Mycoplasmosis and Respiratory disease are the same thing. Carol
  24. YES!!! I agree!!!! Superb! Wonderful read! GREAT information! MORE... MORE... MORE... Thanks for the link Hyacinth, I would love to have his books. Carol
  25. Hi REDCHEQHEN, How are you prepareing your slide? Just smearing it on the slide or mixing with water or solution? If you do a fecal float, using a salt or sugar solution the eggs will float. If you once find something easy to identify, like a roundworm egg, then you will know the size you are looking for to find other things like cocci and hairworm eggs. I've just started with the microscope myself and find it very interesting. Good Luck Carol
