  3. First it takes 2 people, one to hold the bird and one to stick the needle in. You also need witnesses to sign to say they have had the legal amount from a recognised in date batch of vaccine. I inject my birds and other members birds too, but the above still stands! That said, usually someone within your club will be prepared to assist, or may even be appointed to the job, have you asked at your club? They may need to be paid? Try your club mates, if they cann't or wont help, try this forum and give nearset town location and we may be able to find someone to do it for you are demonstrate how its done, thats how I Learnt.
  4. Barnsley, Normanton Feds @ Kettering forcast SSw possible showers and cooler
  5. Add something green to the diet, Dandelion, Chickweed, or buy Lettuce or fasten a piece of Brockley head to something off floor, keeps it out of mess and they can peck and tear bits off. One other thought is add a few rabbit pellets to the mix. Just another thought is a dish of unpolluted garden soil, clay or even a fresh mole hill, you could add a pinch of salt to the soil. I know you have said they are pecking something off a roof, same as fielding in a way so" bring the field back to the loft". try it I think it will help mO.

    Homing Ability

yo sil, sorry to not respond earlier, we were liberated at 06:45am @ Melton Mowbray. In answer to Ms Pigeon, I had thought about respo, but the last 3 fed races were all won by members of my club. Dehydration?? My birds have been basket trained over night with a drinker on, and should know how to drink in the transporter. Also I added re-hydration product to the loft drinkers the whole day before basketing and the day of Basketing. Guess I'm still flumaxed. As i only had 3 return on the day i have continued to train them with later bred birds but one missed and returned "wired" yes it was one that had returned ok from the sunday race. how Lucky is that?.
  7. I have recently read Posts on eye sign and wing theory, in breeding and out crossing as ways to improve homing ability. But I sent 29 y/birds to 1st race and only got 4 home and one reported within walking distance of the Lib site. Can anyone suggest where I and other club members are goining wrong, as a club we lost 200 birds. Stop Press. URGENT UPDATE!!! It has just be announced on BBC Radio that they attached an electonic tag to a Bumbble Bee and it homed from 8 Miles. Perhaps I should Try to get a cock bummble bee to add to my stock. My question is should I breed yellow to Pearl? or father to his best Daughter. Any suggestions (helpfull ones) yours trying to still look on the positive side mO.

hya Cemetary, sorry to say Z rings are invariably National rings and have to be reported direct to RPRA. Is it the STD code or the rest of the phone number your unsure of? Perhaps someone may recognise the area code to give you a clue. Hope the bird picks up and clears ok for you. mO.
  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA, i WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE GIVEN YOU A BIRTHDAY ROSE TOO BUT IT WOULD HAVE HAD TO HAVE BEEN A "YORKSHIRE WHITE ROSE" WE could have re-enacted "The war of the roses" yours in sport, in YORKSHIRE mO.

    Master plan!

Yo jason sorry to hear you ony got a few, but if the thunder holds off I'm sure with the training yours have had that most of em will work their way back none the worse for it. Looking like sending a couple of dozen tommorow 68miles back to me if the fed can agree where the Lib point is. Mine have not had a fraction of the training yours have, so fingers crossed here tomorrow, but at least the weather looks to be better and a bit of help from a westerly wind should keep mine the RIGHT side of the Pennines. yours in sport mO.

BBC at Bordeaux with 1,600 birds held.
  22. elderberry plus "ground cinnamon" is a good preventative of y/bird sickness. cheap too. Pick ya own elderrberry's, just the berrys, rest is poision. Put in a large container. Boil some water and scold the berries. Mash them all to bits. Strain with a flour/ strainer?? botlle just the juice. Add ground cinnamon to the bottle and put the lot in a fridge to keep fresh. One more quick tip. you could make elderrberry ice cubes and just pop in into drinkers daily as you replace the water. If nothing else I imagine its a good source of free Vitamin C for the birds. I use it from when I first wean the y/birds. "none dead" yet lol. Hope the above helps. mO.
  23. Ben your results are better than good mate, Well done, do you have any tips to pass on???. Think some of us on here can learn from YOU! Remember there are no daft questions, and donn't be to proud to ask if unsure, someone on the forum will be able to give you a sensible/practical answer. If we were to do a poll of the total birds represented and the total number of years forum members have flowm birds it would be a staggering total of exsperience. Priceless in my mind. mO
  24. why do most fanciers say " come on here" when calling in their birds, but the N/East fanciers say "away, away" ????
