I am close to Huddersfield and will have my birds out at the weekend, if it drops in to me or any of my club mates i will give you a call. As you are only in huddersfield, are you short of any birds as I have a few too many if it will help you out. PM me if i can help mO.

The best thing to do is to TRY and donate a bird as well and double your chances, especially if it goes to a better flyer. It also a way to test your birds under diffiernt management. mO.

I think you are right, but dunno about the terminology you are using. My fed Normanton is also havibg a sale,ie Breeder/Buyer. Where you can enter a bird into the sale (Breeder) and anyone can buy that bird (Buyer), later in the Y/Bird season at a Centraly marked Fed race those same birds (if enterd) can then fly for a pot of money. It usually pays out 50/50 to the Breeder/Buyer after the Fed has deducted its cut. And yes it would be to both parties advantage if the bird was entered and only fair to the Breeder who has donated the bird for FREE. Hope the above helps mO.

I agree with Steve, unless they cut wide open and require stiches I leave them well alone. There are pics on my site showing what Razor wire does to mine, as my neighbours have a 14ft high fence with Razor barb wire on the top. mO.

Having visited S/Africa only last October and although I didn,t see or handle this years 2007 german entrys I did handle German birds from earlier SCMDR that had been sold off at auction. I was very shocked to see these very high priced birds. I would have culled them as I weaned them. I was handling COCKS that to me were smaller than my smallest HENS. very VERY SMALL BIRDS indeed. hope the above sheds a little light on the type of birds they enter. mO.

As with ALL vermine 2 legged and 4 legged I believe you must ensure your lofts are Secure, we put are birds into a captive environment where they cann't protect themselves and therfore are totally reliant on us. mO

To Help stop birds getting out of the Boxes Amtrax supply I always put tape through the handle, packing tape or cellotape i guess would also do the trick, its stops them opening them for a quick look and guess what? the birds out before they now where they are, ooooooooooops, bird missing mO

My understanding of the IDEAL time to pair is approx 90 days before the 1st race. If flying natural for the distance then you need to adjust the time to get the nest conditions that you want the birds to fly home to. ie, driving, sitting, chipping, or with young in the bowl. Unless you want the young birds from your Distance birds then I would say leave em alone for now and pair them nearer to the race. If you intend racing the young off your distance birds I would of suggested breeding as early as practical, young birds onto darkness system and then split the old birds and re-pair again nearer to the race mO.

just had another look at the pics and the birds look great. I did notice that you use Tobacco stalks and that some of the nests are above the top of the bowl. From my own limited exsperience may I just say that I have lost eggs using tobacco stalks due to the birds piling them up so high. I now always break or cut them in half and do not get eggs out of the bowls now. hope the above is of help. yours in sport mO.

ACV is a good Preventative of Salmonella, being ACID and Salmonella preferes an Alkaline environment. I would put all the birds on Vircon s in the drinkers for 3 days to prevent any possible spread. hope the above helps mO.

wooden V perches are very easy to make and fit. i cut a spare 3" x 3" diagonaly ie into a triangle shape, then cross cut into 4" lengths, Cut thin ply or board to 4" width and approx 4" to 6" in length. Fit the boards to the triangles, counter sunk screws or pin nails driven deep. Easy to scrape off with no heads showing. then one single board about 5 feet long and screw through from the back to affix the completed perch to the 5 foot board. Space them approx 1foot apart To affix the board in its required position just screw it to the wall. hope the above helps you as I am unsure if Boddy and redwood deliver to canada. yours in sport mO.

What A Great sight it was at the Blackpool show, Pigeon basics with a stand and a focal/gathering point for its members, I would like to thank Richard our webmaster for being there all those hours and meeting everyone with a cherrie Hya. Those who I saw with their badges really stood out and thank you for the kind donation of the badges. Those of you who missed the show I can tell you there was a lot of interest from all at the show, home and abroad visitors and all were made welcome Thanks for the wee dram always welcome and sorry to have missed you Fifer One of the many things I always do is to have my blood tested when I am at Blackpool and having done that I was more than pleased to man the stand to let Richard make a £1000 donation, raised from the PB auction. Give yourselves a big pat on the back all PB members. This site is still NUMBER ONE and kept that way by its members. To all those who came to the stand and bought Jack Barkles books thank you and I know you will find both books very informative and helpfull. One show over, Bring on the next ON THE ROAD AGAIN. yours in sport mO.
