I think with the way losses have been going over the years i decided to give them more training this year 3miles, 6miles 12 miles and kept them at same point 19 miles for around 4 weeks a system i used many years ago and was very hard to beat at club level, but sadly it has not worked for me , but you are right why o why do we race at this time of year with the falcon population increased with old & young We still race our young birds the same months that our forefathers did however in this day and age they have to tackle more hurdles that we as fanciers put in front of them YES SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE OR AT LEAST TRIED or the membership will continually decline
-
You can get them back home but would think cost of doing this may be a big factor As i said i have had only 1 reported out of 12 which is coming back to me tomorrow at a cost of £65 a lot of fanceirs just cant afford this Our president has been to stray centre and he states very few are turning up their. I think blue lad is bang on and honestly do not think we will ever stop this relentless loss of young birds
-
Most of your points are valid, but what causes horrific losses and hardly any getting reported i just do not have a clue I myself only bred 21 youngsters had around 30 training tosses prior to first race Wooler 67 miles sent 20 took 1st and 6th club but lost 7 youngsters with only 1 being reported in County Durham 2nd race was from Alnwick 86 miles dropped 5 to date none reported So in 30 training tosses 1 lost in 2 races 12 lost i guess thats me finished and only after 2 races . May i also add that the last 6 training tosses youngsters were singled up with no losses but once put into rece crates and transporter i have lost more than half my team

Excellant decision from Lanarkshire, and as you rightly say BOP is everywhere , less birds being liberated on west route, which could help young bird racing and returns, good luck guys when the racing comes around
