If you were asked to be a Judge at a show, what are the main things to look for when picking the winner?

At some shows they ask for all rings to be taped up in case you recognise the number. I judged at a local show and the guy put a coloured pigeon in knowing I liked them. However on the day I gave the first three cards to the same fancier as his birds stood out a mile from the others. The first fancier then decided that I had gone with my Steward's choice and not my own!

The magazine comes out on a Thursday if you pay for yearly subscription, or Friday at the newsagents but they have to order it for you.

You're only supposed to use a second clock if the first one fails, you can't use both in the same race.

As long as you have got two other members willing to be ETS officials and mark your pigeons they can't stop you using it.

You can get a signal at home before you go to the club and it will stay in the base for about two hours at the correct time.

That's half the problems with faults, it's either clubs not updating their system or user error. We use Unikon and have never had a problem.

We used to have a brilliant presentation night offering a buffet, artist and disco but gradually the numbers dropped until it became an embarrassment. Now the cards are handed out after the agm, you can't even get members to stay for a drink and a chat after marking or clocks, they all just want to disappear. Most don't even help to load the baskets, they're off once marking's finished.

Don't take the first offer and as said above, get some legal advice. As for the statics on land, a friend of mine has done the same out of choice. Sold his house and moved on to a piece of land, he absolutely loves it.

If you're in Ireland think NIPA have a Unikon agent who could sort one out for you. I use Unikon myself it's brilliant.

I think the problems arise when people start putting how many they have "moved on" or how they can be poisened etc. We all know the major problems the bop causes but we are just giving ammunition to the RSPB by openly bragging about how many we have got rid of or how we can get rid of them.

Luckily my two are still there, good luck to everyone else who has birds left, sorry for those who haven't
