  1. hope it wasnt to daft of a question ha! its all abit new to me at the minute Thornaby (near middlesbrough)
  2. i see you all posting about club and fed.. whats fed? federation? im guessing club is the club you race with?
  3. they live no where near me, so im not bothered, i only have 1 garden that joins to mine and that has a massive garage built the full length of it, so i doubt i will get any bother or complaints! just seems odd that people are so negative against pigeons in general.
  4. none yet, just building a loft at the minute, once i get my birds i will look in to joining a club to race with.
  5. ive been posting progress pictures of my loft build on facebook.. the amount of comments against pigeons is mad! 1 lad saying it would be his worst nightmare living near me, and that some 1 near him has racing pigons that crap all over his car and garden etc, so hes reported them to the council. some a number of comments saying flying rats some 1 else saying they would report me and shoot them weird, i guess theres alot of people that dont like pigeons!
  6. Christ, i thought it was just for fun as a hobby!
  7. do you win prizes or money for wining pigeon races? was speaking to some one today who races pigeons and he was saying something about his club going down hill and that where theres a chance of winning money alot of "wrong ones" have joined to try their luck. i thought winning money was only at them one loft races, not at local club
  8. cheers, its taking longer than i thought! quite pleased with how its turning out.. im using polycarbonate sheets for windows.. hope that looks good enough!
  9. spent the last 3 days collecting gear and building the loft... its taking shape now so i thought i would show a few pics.. still got roof to put on, floors to put down and the aviary and traps to build
  10. with the widow hood system, id need 2 separate compartments for the cocks and hens wouldnt i? what about young birds, would i also need a separate compartment for them?
  11. Well I'm just starting out and like the widowhood system so I think I will be going for that... My loft will have 3 sections so should be ideal I hope!
  12. Just wondering how bright does the loft have to be? I'm having a few large windows on the front but there's a corridor between the windows and housing area (housing area will have dowel doors) will it be sifficient or should I be looking at some kind of roof window as well?
  13. ive read that wire mesh isnt good, and that dowels are better, is this essential? how far apart can the dowels be spaced? if doing the widowhood system.. when the hens are completely taken away from the cock, do they just have standard boxes in the hens loft with no fronts and the widowhood boxes with fronts left in the cocks loft? youngbird loft i take it just have small boxes with no fronts? hope the above makes abit of sence!
  14. been looking at alot of loft pictures over the last few days before i start to build mine.. ive noticed about 90% of lofts seem to have sliding external and internal doors.. just wondering what the benefits are over sliding doors over the standard out over opening doors? also any one have any idea what sort of runners are used on the sliding doors and where they can be purchased?
  15. i may have some room at the end to add an avaiary but if not, what about something like this on the front of the loft?
  16. are these all sold now? are you likely to have any more over the coming weeks? just starting out, loft wont be finished until Easter weekend! im only in stockton on tees so not to far for me to come!
  17. im stuart (stu) from the north east (teesside) ive been considering buying some pigeons for years, a neighbor has some racers which i see flying daily, and decided to for out and build my 1st loft and get a few birds! so im just looking at differnt loft designs at the minute and plan to build one over the Easter weekend, then look for my 1st birds! i will then look in to joining my local club and go from there! cant wait! its all very new to me, so trying to read as much and watch as many vids as i can!
  18. just in the process of building my 1st loft... i was planning on making it 13 foot x 4 foot with a full length and hight outdoor wire mesh corridoor 13ftx3 foot.. now im just wondering is the out door bit beneficial, would i maybe be better off making the actual indoor area 13x7ft then maybe 1 or 2 smaller wire mesh outdoor areas attached to each end? i was planning on sectioning the loft up for cocks, hens and young birds. its all new to me so any advice or tips before i start building would be very much appropriated!
