  1. What time would youngbirds start to settle down for the night at this time of year? Just curious as whilst i have been out in the garden on a evening watching some of the locals birds circling the sky and with it still been really warm at the minute do you wait until it turns abit cooler before getting them out? What would be the latest time you let them out in an evening this time of year? Like i say am just curious to know the different opinions Thanks Gav
  2. Good luck to all involved. I have been reading the weekly updates on the web site. Would love to enter the one loft race one day
  3. Thanks for the replys i will keep note of all whats been said above for when the time come to set up. Cracking lofts them mate! Gav
  4. Thanks for your reply Walter i will keep that in mind. In your opinion what would be a suitable number of young birds to keep in a 6x4 please? And can i say that the piece you did in the novice section about latebreds i found it a very good read Walter Thanks Gav
  5. I will be keeping an eye on this post as this is how i am planning on starting up by converting a 6x4 shed. It will be on blocks so its off the ground mesh door behind the the original door and a sputnik trap where the window hole is. Would it be best to also put a vent or two on the front of the shed for ventilation? Was thinking of about 14 young birds in something of that size is that about right or is that to many? Thanks Gav
  6. Can anyone recomend any dvds for a new starter ( one day soon hopefully ) I have recentley watched the Richard Turner from Worksop one and I found that a really good watch. Can anyone recomend any others which would be of an interest to a newbie? Thanks in advance
  7. Blaz thank you for your time, replys and offers. Once i have a loft, club and the sec details i will certainly be in touch. Your a credit to the sport. Blaz in your opinion whats the best/worst thing about the sport/hobbie?
  8. Its something that interests me when am out and about or on way to/home from work i watch the birds circling and flying in the sky from local fanciers and think ad like my own birds one day and see what else is involvled ie the breeding training and the racing seeing the birds home on race day. Once set up al be pleased just to get the birds home after training an racing and just enjoy the sport but being a of a competitive nature i will then no doubt be wanting to win races on a regular basis.
  9. Thanks i will do that blaz really kind offer. Good luck sheppy look forward to hearing how you get on as a new starter.
  10. Ok thanks again blaz. Hopefully my next post will be how am set up and looking forward to racing.
  11. Some real food for thought there thank you both for the replys. As a new starter ( in the not to distant future hopefully ) Am i better getting young birds and race when i can ? ( every other week with my current working hours ) Or get some stock breed off them and send them off to one loft racing? What are your opinions on both of the above please?
  12. Thank you very much for your kind offer! But Currently living arrangements mean i can not keep any birds ( rented accommodation) currently in the process of looking for our own place to buy and then hopefully all being well i will be able to start keeping/ racing. What i was thinking was maybe buying say two pairs to start with and send the young ones from them off to one loft racing as i currently work every other saturday so wouldn't be able race every week if i kept the birds to race myself. Does this sound like a good place to start or would i be better off starting with young birds and learn as i go with them racing when i can so every other week or is this no good? Your advice is very much appreciated
  13. Thanks very much for that advice Owen. Would it be ok keeping the stock cocks and hens in the same section ? What would be the pros and cons with keeping the stock birds together all year round?
  14. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on keeping stock birds in same section? Is it something you do or have you tried it in the past? What are the pros and cons of keeping stock birds this way?
  15. Bit far for me that Thanks again

  18. Hi guys this Thursday night just gone i found this bird in the back garden NEHU2012DC0264 doesn't seem able to fly other than that seems ok to me. Checked for contact number an it's unreadable on the wing. It's been in the garden shed since Thursday night out of harms as there's a lot of cats an dogs in the area and didn't want anything to get it. It's been given fresh water an some bird seed/nuts daily. Can someone please provide some details of registered owner or advice on how I can get it back to its owner and what I should do it in the mean time while it's still in my care as I don't keep pigeons myself. Thanks in advance Gav
