"Poco" (B92-5000631) has developed bij Jos Thoné into the absolute ancestral stoch bird as regards very long distances. Her offspring are truly sensational. It's no wonder when you see what "Poco" herself got up to during her active racing career, where she never let Jos down. All the birds at the new adress had to prove themselves from the start and ther was no mercy shown. So, in the year she was born, "Poco" raced over 5.000 m, including two races over 700 km. The last race in her year of birth was Brive (720 km). It was a difficult race and only a few birds managed to reach their loft before darkness fell on the day of the toss. Jos had also been watching out untill twilight and went to change ready to take the clock to the clubroom. Then when he went out in the dark to pick up the clock (there were no lights in the lofts then), he heard the noise of a bird trying to get in through the trap. Jos walked over the section of the young birds that were racing and to his surprise found "Poco" who had flown on into the night. From that moment he knew forsure that that bird, with such stamina, he earned a permanent place on his loft. But "Poco" wasn't finished pulling results out of the bag and firnished Jos many a splendid moment in his pigeon racing career. the first of these was within the year. anyone with any knowledge of pigeons was convinced "Poco" was burnt out. She had coverde far too many kilometers asyoungster and had over-stretched herself. However jos had the greatest faith in her. So much, in fact, that he dared to send her to Barcelona. In addition, it was dreadfully difficult Barcelona race. it was so hot that you could hardly bear to be outdoors. "Poco" showed her true colours yet again. In the killing heat she was the fastest of the yearlings beating all-comers in this hard International race across the Pyrenees.(1st International Barcelona Yearlings 1993). Jos hadn't expected her back so soon at first didn't realize what an unbelievable stunt this splendid hen had pulled off. that soon changed over the coming years. Then Jos would be sitting waiting for her, with the tought in the back of his mind that she could very wll pull off the same stunt again. In 1994 she was again amongst the top 100 National from Barcelona.In that same year JOs had the fastest yearling again in the Barcelona International and also again from the same line. This time it was the "polanova" (B93-5010190) that pulled it off. However "Poco's" turn for applause was to come again. In 1995, "Poco" had come across a late cock in a seperate section of the loft, when her own cock had failed to return from a race. jos let her please herself. Since they were housed in a seperate section, they didn't go out training very often. But she was completely crazy about that cock and even more so about her nest. nothing could move her. In this state she was basketed for her final Barcelona race. Her family members and affspring were also beginning to draw attention, to themselves due to their racing qualities and Jos had decided to put her in the stock loft. Just one last race from Bracelona. Yet again she produced a surprise result. suddenly a dot appeared on the horizon, steadily approaching the lofts and diving towards the loftat great speed for the last few metres literally exploded into the loft. Jos head already seen it was "Poco" during her dive and clocked her in with a lump in his throat. When it transpired that she was 1st National Barcelona (hens) he couldn't holsd back the tears at one the tears at one the oeaks of his career. In the meantime, it seems that the "Poco" line is the summit of very long distance birds. Barcelona in particular is a race that suits this line. In this respect the International victory from Barcelona in 1997 is convincing, right up-to-date with the inbred "Arnold" B95-5052496. This inbreeding, you understand, is back to the Poco, since the dam of Arnold is out of a halfbrother of Poco. The birds in this family are just like Poco; fearless, intelligent and with enormous natural stamina coupled to a wonderful character. Other stars out of the "Poco" line are, besides of course "Hilary" and "Caprice", her two splendid daughters, also "Stradivarius" and "Wilbert" together with his half-sister "Butterfly".
