  1. Having only had one baby pigeon (racing variety), I didn't think it was one - but keep on feeding it and it'll be in the garden for ever! And.... doubt it it'll win any races, but a lucky little thing to have found you. Well done :-)
  2. Hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of quoting your new message from the other thread, and re-attaching your photo. From my limited experience, it looks like around 10 days, but it does look like a dodo!! You'll be amazed at how quickly they grow. Is it a pigeon? ;-)
  3. Good on you for taking care of him. As Peckedhen says, see how it goes after a couple of weeks - good if his tail feathers are back. If he looks alert and is eating and drinking, that's great. You're the sort of person pigeon fanciers appreciate if one of ours goes missing!
  4. Lovely birds :-)
  5. oi! I got my tickets months ago! Its now the intermission (typing this on my phone). She's got more feathers than my pigeon ;-)
  6. Hi Phil. He was out by feeder last night making a right noise. Won't actually be in Bristol tonight (off to Cardiff this afternoon to see Dolly Parton). What an admission!! ;-)
  7. Cheers, thanks for that :-) I'm trying to learn about the birds, and the types, but there's a lot to learn ;-) Will try to find out what stock pigeon in the kitchen came from. Did write it all down as his original owner had quite a limited stock - but can't find it now - too busy popping in and out of the shed lol Thanks for your comment. Very helpful to me as a raw beginner.
  8. Cool. But that means nothing to me :-) Will have to do some research on colouring!
  9. Cheers ozbrit :-)
  10. The pigeon in the kitchen's baby is now 16 days old. Is s/he looking how you'd expect a 16 day old to look? Picked it up today to clean the box out - lovely strong wings. Squeeks a lot to call for food. Is that why they're called squeekers? Sorry, but it's early days in the world of the pigeon for me :-)
  11. Cheers, Phil :-)
  12. Oh Christ ;-) pardon me. Yes, the signs are there, I think.
  13. Hi Phil. Thanks for asking. Every day I go in there, the little one looks totally different. Really growing and feathers thickening up. 14 days old now. Mum and dad no longer on bowl but keeping tabs. In fact, little one not in nest bowl any more, but in box behind bowl. Is this normal, or should I lift back into bowl? Will take update pic in next few days. Mum and dad doing really well too. Addicted to peanuts!
  14. Maybe it's because they're all being nicked!! :-(
  15. Great to see a Mr & Mrs partnership. Well done! Great effort :-)
  16. Hope some of the others return home too. As you say, they're sick :-(
  17. Well, fair play to him for making such an effort :-)
  18. Well done to you too, DOVEScot. Having looked at the guy's profile, he's got his 100% feedback through buying rather than selling, but that still shows he's genuine and doen't mess people about (there are plenty of buyers who do). Good on him for posting it - just a shame that it was on ebay rather than somewhere like PB! The bird look really nice :-)
  19. A towel, a blunted cocktail stick, a tub of vaseline, an ice cube wrapped in some kitchen towel. A wierd fetish that I'm sharing with you? No! My first ever banding, successfully accomplished yesterday evening. With thanks to Merlin for his generosity in sending over the rings, and to the other members who have given me tips on what to do. I felt well prepared, but a little apprehensive being a novice. But: :-) :-) :-) :-)
  20. Well done *thumbs up* :-)
  21. Hi. As you say, this person isn't trying to sell the bird, and is simply asking if anyone has lost the bird, etc. The bird looks lovely. Has anyone contacted the 'seller' suggesting he/she tries to get ring number? Does he/she know about PB? I'll contact if not, but you may have already have done this. D
  22. Sorry for going back on subject again ;-), but I'm really annoyed I missed the programme (saw it advertised last week). For those who watched it, did the pigeon have a memory card strapped to him to quickly get to the base camp and have the pics printed for the punters? I can understand how the pigeon would go to the base camp (presumably, that's where it was homed), but for a novice like me, how did they get the bird to go from the base-station to wherever the pics were being taken? Or did they drive him back? For anyone who didn't see it, this will sound like I'm on something
  23. Free bus trips to the far corners of the country, accompanied by a basket of pigeons - free training sessions! But you'll never beat them home using public transport ;-)
  24. Thanks Debbie. Although you never know - never say never! But, I've ordered some phone number quickie rings too, which all three are having on. Belt & braces. I'll be asking whether it's Charlotte, Desiree, Estima, King Edward or Maris Piper next :P
  25. As soon as it arrives, it'll be on. I HOPE
