I'm not a proper pigeon fancier, but for me, it's having birds going off, then coming back. Knowing where their home is. Absolute best is the summer - long days, and birds splashing about in a bath, then going back into their shed. Whilst I'm having a bottle and a book on the hammock

Wales WILL Win! Many will disagree....but WWW

Undefeated world super middleweight champion - longest reigning world title holder in boxing history, a career spanning almost two decades - unbeaten in 18 years as a professional and amateur boxer. Pretty damned good, whatever anyone says.

Well, mine have been very lucky, as I live right on the Almondsbury interchange! Now, I'm afraid to let them out!! Mine are swifter and faster than any peregrine HAHA!!
-
Phil - congratulations to you, Vicki, and the family. What a beautiful little thing! Welcome to Sophia x

Looks excellent. Well done, and all the best with it all!
-
Yep, good one - glad I checked back, as I was thinking Flights of Fancy

I've loaded it onto Google Earth. Brilliant!!!

We laughed a lot at that Duncan. Funny, because it's so true!

Happy holiday to everyone and their birds
-
You too, Phil - hope you all have a great time. Thanks for all your help this year - they're all going out now - and I'm so pleased that Penny is homing brilliantly, and Berwyn's a sight for sore eyes! Thanks to everyone else for their help and advice this year. Happy Christmas to all x
-
Yes, hasn't done him much harm! Cheers
-
Not a great pic - but he was on the move! Merry Christmas from me, Blue Boy and the rest. Best wishes

Many thanks for the suggestion - good thinking! Sorry for delay in replying (been in meetings all afternoon).

Kangaroo birds Do you use bobs now?
-
Cheers for that! It only happened for the first time yesterday - but they always exit by the main sliding doors (which I close immediately), then they arrive back via the landing board. I leave the sliding door to the slot entrance until I get home, but will definitely check out the bobwire suggestion.

How can a pigeon get out of the entrance hole of a sputnik? Anyone else had this happen?
-
I was just about to kick myself for getting rid of a couple of webs near the windows in the shed at the weekend. But having read a few of the other posts, I'm not so sure now!

Thanks Larry, and I remember very clearly you saying that, and I'm very conscious of your advice. I'd be very surprised if there are any feral pigeons around my neck of the woods, but even then, picking up something and bringing it back is a fear of mine. I think his needs as a bird, and the freedom he's gained may override mine, but I realise I need to protect the other three (at the moment) he shares a shed with. I'll do my best and see what happens. I can review it one way or the other. Many thanks. PS: For anyone worrying that I'll be eating pigeon over the holiday period - fear not. I haven't eaten meat for 26 years, and don't intend to start now

Cheers for your replies everyone. My big challenge at the moment is enabling all four of them to go out at the same time, and ensure they come back in fairly quickly and see it as an exercise flight rather than a chance to go off and do their own thing!! Bluey has a tendency to go off, and stay out overnight sometimes. He's probably going back to where he used to roost for the 2 years he was in the wild - but I don't think he's being fed wherever it is, as he always comes back ready to eat. Junior goes out with him, but as he was born in the shed, he comes back, even if it's on his own. Penny and Berwyn have been ranging, so are finding their way around together. But I don't want Bluey leading those two into bad habits. I'm trying to get a critical mass of them in and out, which might encourage Bluey to follow suit. We'll see! Sorry if that doesn't make sense!

Credit where credit is due, so I'm adding another post about Phil. Totally genuine, extremely helpful, and has time for everyone. The world would definitely be a better place if there were more like him. The number of times I've PMd with a question and he's back with advice in a flash - and he's busy. Knowing Phil, he'll be embarrassed by all this, but he should know how well he's regarded and respected.
-
He's doing well, cheers Duncan. He's been out with the hen (Penny) that pjc also have me. They both go out an in a treat. I'm so pleased that Penny has settled in, because although her wing had been clipped as she's a 6yr old (and I only had her this summer), I let the feathers grow back and she's homing really well. Berwyn (the white) has a massive wingspan, and looks brilliant. I'll get a pic of Penny up, although she's had a bit of a moult The amount of advice I've had from Phil (pjc) has been invaluable, and has given me a huge amount of confidence.

One foot in the grave, or a pigeon in the kitchen

You're seriously suggesting that everything I ever posted on the thread was a made up story? You really think I've spent all these months making up this elaborate story for the fun of it? You think that I got the likes of Stuart Wilcox to join in the lie (I took Bluey over to Stuart's in the early days, so he's actually held him - or are you suggesting a stunt double?). If you think I've nothing better to do with my time than fabricate an elaborate lie, then you're very much mistaken. And not for the first time. -
