i like a 5 mile toss to start with , if the young birds have been ranging well then they would of covered this easily , but i believe better to release them closer to home as 1 gets them used to been basketed , and 2 better to be familiar with the area and build there confidence and if get a bad toss at 5 mile there more likely to wander back , once there covering a to b well move them on it's not about fitness its more about gaining there confidence and get them ready for what's ahead of them imo
