  1. Great news Boomerang, are you sorted for youngbirds? Phil
  2. what are his thoughts on the condition/problem?
  3. looking forward to seeing the finished project!
  4. Hi David, Nice to meet you last night, sorry couldn't stay and chat longer, damn work always gets in the way of the pigeons! Give grit in a seperate pot, only give a small ammount at a time and change it every couple of days so its always fresh, same with minerals. Phil
  5. there is a thread about breaking birds to a new loft http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1209386029/s-new/#num21 Personally if you are starting from scratch you maybe better off getting some youngbirds that you can let out and if you have the room have the offered oldbirds but keep them in and use them to breed from. Phil
  6. when the birds are flying watch them, you will start to notice that different birds do things slightly differently, some land or approach the loft ina different way etc, when you start to spot this you can pick out which bird is which even if they are the same colour. Phil
  7. should read Epsom 158m 873yrds South East
  8. Epsom, 158m 873m, south east
  9. As Merlin says, isolate any sick birds and remove any others as soon as they look show signs of illness. Just use a multivitamin in the water and a probiotic to help build natural imunity. Use Virkon-s to spray the loft out as this is an anti viral disinfectant. Phil
  10. It is excellent stuff and is ministry approved for foot and mouth etc. My concern with this problem is that if he goes to a normal vet the first thing they'll do is prescribe Batryl because they don't know what they are doing and he will lose the rest of the birds! Phil
  11. possibly, there is a member in my club who has a similar problem at the moment. He is treating with large ammount of vitamins and anything to promote imunity. Do not give antibiotics, they will not work for a virus but do use an anti viral dissinfectant like Virkon-s to sparay the loft out every coupe of days!
  12. you need to find out what it is! Have you got a local avian vet that can swab ant test? Phil
  13. very clever idea!
  14. very nice, like the bath set up and drain!
  15. The first thing to think about is getting yourself a loft or a suitable shed you can convert. If you have a look in begginers info and members photo's you will get some ideas on the sort of thing you will be looking at. Hopefully there may be a member in your area that can give you advice and that may invite you to look at there set up and birds to help you with ideas. Phil
  16. I take it Walsall Dave, your from Walsall? Have you any experience of pigeons at all? If not is there anybody on the site that is prepared to mentor you and take you under there wing? Phil
  17. Same old thing Chrisss, how many times does it come up on this forum about birds being sold from people who either don't race themselves or sell from birds that havn't flown either! As I have said many times before "buyer beware"!
  18. I hope the auction goes well and the purchases get what they want from proven racing stock!
  19. When I was living in east London I moved about 2 miles, line of flight. I moved the birds and loft on the Friday afternoon, let them out on the Monday and took 3rd midweek race on the Wednesday having to fly over the old loft location. I only had to fetch 1 bird back from the old house, well attempted to fetch back! As there was no loft there I had to attempt to catch it on the lawn, called it down and grabbed for it ending up with a handfull of tail feathers. The bird took off so I went back home and found the bird sat waiting to be let in!
  20. If a member ask's a sensible question the vendor should be prepared to answer it! The answer may be information that would encourage others to bid! Mixxy asked a reasonable question that is still awaiting an answer!
  21. Mixy, you don't actualy expect him to answer a straight question do you?
  22. quality craftsmanship!
  23. It was down Chris but it seems OK again now! Guests you can even join the group, self promote and advertise your birds! for free!
  24. Only one wing but all primary's quils as well as low as you can. Phil
  25. David, its only 6'x6' made up of 3'panels! As i said i've got some spare panels here if you wanted to make a 3'x3' flight would give the bird/birds somewhere to go out into during the day while your not there and then you could let them out for a fly while you are there. This way you can keep an eye on the birds when your home. Some people leave the birds out all day but this can attrackt cat etc as well as cause problems with neighbours if the birds are sitting on there roof etc. Phil
