ant-biotics in my opinion are best avoided,especially when you are not able to get vets advice there are many tratments for cocci [amprol] [harkers coxoid just one] worms , again many treatments [levacide] harkers spartakon canker can be treated with [again theres many different treatments] with harkers spartrix tabs serious respiratory, often needs anti-biotics,, but respiratory probs can usually be avoided with good fresh air . cleanliness , less overcrowding , and a good dry loft,,hope this helps ,, less stress in the loft will lesson any of these complaints

sorry late in answering matt,, it is very difficult to train just 4 pigeons, but still possible , gaining their confidence, regulating their feeding [growing yb,s need more than ob,s] and routine, pigeons will get used to routine,,,letting them out and calling them in at feeding time, feeding very lightly am, ,,if any of the 4 [or all the 4] dont come in when called in the morning .. lock them out till evening, without food ,[make sure theres no access to food , other than inside their loft] they will soon catch on ,, good luck

at this stage,, let them see older bird eating, they will be quick in catching on,, and eating for themselves within a few days,, i would suggest multi-vits in their drinking water each second day, untill their fending for themselves, which should be soon ,,seems you have did a good job

the 11 year old hen , mentioned in earlier posts has laid 4 sets of eggs , all fertille, all fostered out, the sire was an 8 year old son of" all alone" [with a green eye , they tell me ] a nat winner , when paired to a daughter of a nat winner [massarelli] maybe interesting to see what becomes of them ,or, if it comes to that, their progeny

looking through these posts again, [and albears interesting last one] maybe slightly off topic, but remember charlie wooff [wooff bros , new ollerton] owning and racing two great pigeons "clive 76" and the" 31" both these birds [cocks] were absolutely fantastic racers, not only that, but fantastic breeders , with many different hens,, at the end of their days" clive 76" being 17 and the "31 being 15" these two pigons had stopped" filling" their eggs , put in a loft on their own with a large aviary , after a while , charlie" stuck a young hen in , to keep them happy,,, the young hen laid , the eggs fostered , hatched , these yb,s and their progeny bred many winners ,,,,,,,,but any one of them could have been the sire ;D,,true,,,,,,,,,,,,so when they say, theres life in the old dog yet, it was cerainly true in this case ;D ;D ;D

any feds going west hitting the lothians/ loanhead/penicuick area , between the hours of 11 30,-12 30 and onwards faced the most horrific freak thunderstorms , torrential rain , even hailstones at intermitant intervals ,, saw many birds battling against this , these really were freak weather conditions and very bad

good link, for explanation etc ,, but [only in my opinion] feel that by b4 using anti-biotics to" cure" any respiratory problems, i would firstly find out the cause,, usualy caused by faulty or in-sufficient ventilation, or over crowding , dampness etc,, or even stress,, i believe most of the pigeon problems we have nowadays are in fact due to the over use of antibiotics allthough anti-biotics can be a life saver,, the abuse of these, by fanciers treating willy nilly are, in fact , defeating the objective of breeding pigeons with a good strong constitution, far better to look for the cause rather than the cure
