  1. wings, i would allways say the wind can influence the race, but getting a bird bang on form ,at the right time, will overcome many obstacles, usually the winner is comming direct home, i do here what your saying about distances, but that debate can go on and on, keeping a neutral view of things, it can be said that andy is flying the same distance as cockburnspath, which, if driving by car would be quicker to drive to you, than drive to cockburnspath, i think the way you are going im sure youll do well in the nationals, i certainly hope you do. best of luck,,, dont let the position bother you it would just make the winner better :) p,s andy flies about furthest west in his fed, by a long chalk, but he gets them.
  2. nothing wrong with a few drops of bleach, most of us give our birds kilpatricks iodised minerals , but a lot of fanciers dont know that, that contains bleach [ chlorine] as do many more products
  3. WHERE WE STAY ,I WOULD WATCH TRAINING YBS IN AN EAST WINDS, AS YOU CAN GET MIST COMMING IN FROM THE COAST, VERY QUICKLY
  4. WE BUY SPRINT PIGEONS EXPECTING THEM TO SPRINT, AND TREAT THEM AS SUCH, WE BUY DISTANCE PIGEONS, EXPECTING THEM TO FLY THE DISTANCE,,,, I THINK MORE IMPORTANLY, IS WHAT JOB THEIR SET UP FOR.
  5. glad your happy with the vanodine, it is great stuff, but still feel your putting the wrong message over the milton, you were saying above that the dilution of vanodine is 3ml to a gallon and on your post a bit earlier you were saying milton has 38 pc salt but lets face it its not if its diluted the proper way would you drink a mouthfull of vanodine out the bottle,,,no,, its the same as milton its diluted to purify the water, as you will see if you look in to milton ,the hill walkers cn take stream water and put the right dosage of milton in it , to make the water safe to drink.,,,as far as the proper dilution of milton would contain a lot less salt than your ordinary black minerals or pickstones , it would amount to near enough nil " DILUTED" :)
  6. agree with andy, i would say bred for the job, fed for the job, and managed for the job, , but must say its easier said than done,as im sure andy will agree theres a lot of hard work involved " dedication is the key word"be it natural or widowhood.
  7. i have raced both natural and widowhood at the distance and done well with both[also done bad with both] i think its a very difficult question to answer in a few lines.widow hood cocks, tend to eat less than natural birds especialy later in the season, so whether it be widowhood or natural they must have the fuel for the journey, so widowhood cocks have to be encouraged to eat a heavier than normal w .hood diet including ,peanuts[ which theyll eat ]tic beans and maples, w.hood cocks destined for the distance, should[ be in my opinion]started off later in the season, and off course youll get as many differant type of races as you will get pigeons, i.e the pigeon i won the combine with was doing 1400vel for a 505 race this pigeon won many sprint races, but there was no comparison to sir colin .who was 2nd nat 604 miles in a cold head wind, and scored well in many hard races 4 nationalsover 505miles his wing was broken at 4 years old, so who could say he wouldnt have scored again, as i said the question is a big one and couldnt be answered, quickly and easily, but fuel for the journey is just ONE of the important things, there are many more
  8. ;D ;D happy birthday bruno ;D ;D have a good day,and many more to come ;D ;D
  9. no need to worry snowy, nature will take care of that
  10. as i said b4 pigeon pete, the bird will recover quickly, but phsycologicaly, maybe not so quick, pigeons never forget.and theres a lot of sense in what speckled says, ive used rockets, starting pistols, you name it, ive even used both together, anything to put the fear of death in them, it keeps them at bay for a while, untill they get there confidence back, then repeat it, when they appear again, thats only one way.but there are others.,,youll find speckled is not as daft as you think, ive found that out
  11. HI PIGEONPETE, SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR HAWK ATTACK, AS IN THE POSTS ABOVE AN ANTISEPTIC SPRAY WILL HELP, BUT THE ONLY THING IS ,BEWARE THE HAWK WILL BE BACK, SO MAYBE YOU CAN HAVE SOME SORT OF DETTERENT

  19. the oocysts for cocci will not survive for long in a perfectly dry area, they survive well on damp sand floors, damp aviaries etc, so as much as fanciers keep thir loft clean ,ie scraping or deep litter, most fanciers forget about the outside of the loft, i allways use to dissenfect all the path and outside loft area , and kept the garden turned over, the ideal stuff for that would be virkon s
  20. if you paired your distance birds about10 weeks b 4 the big one youll find their either sitting or hatching their second round, and probably just cast their second flight, but thats just a guide line ,as all birds are differant, some will race better to newly hatched young, some 10 days on eggs, some old cocks even driving, then theres races that suit widowhood cocks, then there are cocks that race better widowhood, i would say base your system on the way their parents have scored, likewise with the management.
  21. :) no i beleive you snowy, when i tell my daughter, we had a 9 inch black and white tv, she just laughs at me , and thinks im kidding :)
  22. read LEVIES book on" the pigeon" he says its all in the JEANS ;D ;D ;D
