i have bred winners out of old stock birds , but found out only certain ones ,,,and very few :)but in saying that i bred a bird from a 14 year old,, never been raced , but this bird has thrown good birds

on widowhood,,,,,showing the hens to often. yb,s putting all my eggs into one basket [best split the yb team ] in my opinion

i think to win with yb,s feed lightly,, but maybe not the best idea to make great ob,s [ in my opinion yb,s are still growing and need proper nourishment if they areto make good ob,s] theres only a few yb races , but a lot more ob races

i would tend to agree with this one ,, so that the second round have to think for themselves for a bit

i must agree with rolands postings,, apart from more fanciers taking up sprint racing due to the avian flu scares in recent years,,, these pigeons that are capable of flying 15 hours on the wing , and even carrying on the next day,, are really special pigeons ,,,but i have also seen these same pigeons win at 280 miles , which were put in as trainers [but found this to be a great sign ,winning their third race of the seson ,,,then ready for 5-600 miles , but as for clubs for this we have this in scot ,,in fact two clubs ,, but in my opinion not only the birds should be bred for the job,, more importantly they should be conditioned for the job,,ive seen so many fanciers say that particular bird is no good at 5-600 mile ,,,when its had about 10 races previous to the big one ,, this is not fair to the pigeon and no way to find out if their any good at the distance,, in my opinion , the bird must be bred for the job, the experience [age] for the job and conditioned for the job , then found out if its capable for the job, and as roland says also there are birds that can do 500 mile but not the 600 mile , maybe me being biased but i think the best distance pigeons come from scotland or northern ireland ,as these are very difficult routes for pigeons ,, only my opinion

i usually add a little extra protein , increased near hatching , and as i said b4 a little babies milk powder in their water now and again,, plenty grit ,pickstones, minerals,,a must

birds kept as prisoners in an aviary , dont get much use of their wings,, put water, and food on pole with exact size of round platform ,, birds have to grip edge of dish , and have to keep flapping their wings

if a bird has broken one of its last six flights , find an exact match , cut the broken flight clean, poke a light sowing needle with super glue down the stump, half way the carefully poke the new flight with super glue on to the top half of the needle ,,,,a very delicate job and needs to be a perfect match

when the birds are feeding youngsters ive found it advantagious [big word for me ;D] to put a spoonfull of babies milk in their water now and again along with some hormoform ,,,[in a galley pot ;D] prooved well for me [calcium in babies milk too]
